On Saturday, Sept. 11, Elmhurst and the nation recognized the 20th anniversary of the attacks on America when terrorists flew planes into the Twin Towers in New York City, as well as into the Pentagon. A fourth plane crashed into a field in Shanksville, Pa., following an attempt by the passengers and crew to regain control of the plane from hijackers. It was a solemn scene at the South York Fire Station in Elmhurst, where these members of the Elmhurst police and fire departments served as the color guard for the ceremony.
