Cook County pair charged in theft from Elmhurst T-Mobile store
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin and Elmhurst Chief of Police Mike Ruth announced last week that bond has been set for two individuals accused of stealing merchandise from a T-Mobile store located in Elmhurst. Jessica Hargrays, 39, of 2750 Roosevelt Road, Chicago, appeared in Bond Court this morning where bond was set at $5,000 with 10% to apply. Her co-defendant, Johnnie West, 52, of 1426 S. 10th Avenue, Maywood, appeared at a bond hearing this morning where Judge Jeffrey MacKay set bond at $ 20,000, with 10% to apply. It is alleged that on April 12, 2018, at approximately 6:52 p.m., Hargrays and West entered the T-Mobile together. It is alleged that Hargrays approached the counter at the store and distracted employees while West cut a pair of headphones from a display. It is further alleged that the duo then left the store with the headphones. A few minutes later, the Elmhurst Police Department initiated a traffic stop on the pair who were then both taken into custody without incident. “Once again, we see individuals traveling to DuPage County to allegedly commit a crime,” Berlin said. “And once again, thanks to the fine

pendent living facility for allegedly stealing jewelry from an elderly resident at the facility. Jossie Powell, 74, of 342 Morris Avenue, Bellwood, appeared at a bond hearing, where Judge Robert Miller set bond at $5,000 with 10% to apply. It is alleged that in mid-January, 2018, Powell, who was employed as
a part-time caregiver for her victim, stole jewelry from her victim including a men’s gold bracelet and a white gold women’s ring containing a ruby and diamonds. When the victim realized her jewelry was missing, she contacted the Elmhurst Police Department, who began an investigation. The investigation ultimately
led to Powell, who has been charged with one count of Theft (Class 3 Felony) and one count of Burglary (Class 2 Felony.) “These individuals deserve our respect, care and comfort and should not have to worry about becoming a victim of theft,” Berlin said. “I would like to thank the Elmhurst Po-
lice Department for their efforts on this case.” Powell’s next court appearance is scheduled for May 10, 2018, in front of Judge George Bakalis. Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt.

On Tuesday, April 10, the north fire station held a “Wet Down” ceremony that dates back to the late 1800s, when they gathered to ‘wet down’ Fire Engine 1. At the end of the ceremony, all the firefighters at the station gathered to push the engine back into its rightful home to wait until duty calls. Full story and more photos inside.
