Hospital’s ‘Run of the Month’ honor presented to Elmhurst Fire Department

Elmhurst Hospital’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) has awarded its “Run of the Month” for July-Aug. 2018 to the Elmhurst Fire Dept. The department was recognized at a special thank-you breakfast held in their honor on Thursday, Feb. 7 at the hospital.

Medic #1, Rescue #1 and Engine #2 were recognized for the outstanding care they administered on Aug. 26, 2018 to a 59-year-old man, who was experiencing chest pains. Upon arrival at the Elmhurst Hospital Emergency Department, the man became unresponsive. The pa-

tient was defibrillated and CPR was started, after which he became alert and was talking. He was able to be released from the hospital five days later. In the “Run of the Month” program, Elmhurst Hospital’s EMS Team reviews ambulance runs by pre-hospital

providers and selects one to be recognized based on the following criteria: • Excellent communication from the field that resulted in the timely delivery of pertinent clinical information to the Elmhurst Hospital Emergency Department staff; • Clear and thorough documenta-

tion; • Superior clinical assessment skills that resulted in accurate recognition of a clinical situation; • Behavior exceeding the call of duty in the field; and, • Superior partnership and teamwork with Elmhurst Hospital.
