Teachers’ union endorses District 205 referendum Concerned for ‘best possible learning environment’

On Tuesday, Oct. 2, the Independent learned that the Elmhurst Teachers’ Council had decided to endorse the District 205 Facilities Referendum, which will appear on the ballot in the upcoming Election on Tuesday, Nov. 6. The news comes on the heels of a similar announcement from the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry. Its Government Affairs Committee elected to endorse the action at a special meeting held last week. Subsequently, its Board of Directors also endorsed the referendum.

The official statement: “The Elmhurst Teachers’ Council represents more than 700 teachers, reading specialists, counselors, psychologists, speech pathologists, social workers, instructional coaches, deans and librarians, in all 14 schools in District 205. We are a Union of professionals, and we devote our professional lives to the academic growth and the social and emotional development of all the students in this community.
