Edge Ice Arena hosts 48th annual Stan Mikita Hockey School School specifically for the deaf and hard of hearing
This June, the Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville hosted the 48th annual Stan Mikita Hockey School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (AHIHA). From June 12 – 19, this week-long hockey school worked with approximately 70 young athletes from across the country which skated on one of four skill-level based teams. Classes included rigorous on-ice training, practice sessions, and games against Chicago area hockey teams and clubs. All expenses of this hockey school are paid by the non-profit organization. “It is always great to be a part of something that truly makes a difference within the community,” said Village President Frank DeSimone. “We are thrilled to, once again, be the rink of choice for such an impactful organization and cannot thank them enough for bringing this great opportunity back to Bensenville.” The Stan Mikita Hockey School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is one of the leading sports organizations in the United States serving deaf and hard of hearing athletes. The school’s mission is to instill confidence and self-esteem in deaf and hard of hearing individuals, primarily through AHIHAsponsored clinics, camps, and related hockey activities.
