DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin and Bensenville Chief of Police Frank Kosman announced recently that charges have been filed against a Des Plaines man for allegedly stabbing his former girlfriend to death on June 18.

Victor Tornez-Sanchez, 27, appeared in Bond Court where Judge Anne Therieau Hayes set bond at $2.5 million with 10 percent to apply. Tornez-Sanchez is charged with one count of first degree murder.

On June 18 at approximately 9:26 p.m., the Bensenville Police Department received a call regarding a stabbing victim in the 700 block of Parkside Lane. Upon their arrival, officers found Olivia RenteriaBravo, 32, unresponsive and lying in a pool of blood, approximately 10 feet away from the building.

Renteria-Bravo appeared to have been stabbed at least three times, once in her chest, once in her right side and once in her right bicep.

Renteria-Bravo was immediately transported to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital where she passed away as a result of her injuries.

An investigation into the murder led authorities to her former boyfriend, Victor Tornez-Sanchez.

It is alleged that Tornez-Sanchez waited in a vehicle outside RenteriaBravo’s home for her to return from a date with her new boyfriend.

It is further alleged that after Renteria-Bravo was dropped off in front of her building, TornezSanchez ran towards her, stabbed her three times, ran back to his vehicle and fled the scene. Tornez-Sanchez was taken into custody in Elgin.

Aaron Equipment to move to accommodate Elgin O’Hare Western Access project

Last year, the state avoided a shutdown by enacting a full-year funding measure.

In light of the ongoing stalemate in the state legislature, the report notes that suspending IDOT projects will provide no immediate budget relief, since the projects are already covered by federal aid, state fuel taxes and user fees, and local sources. The funding is restricted to transportation only and is protected by a Constitutional Amendment passed in November of 2016 by almost 80% of Illinois voters.

Addison June 21 Angela M. Portis, 53, o Berwyn, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon and assault in the 600 block of Meadows Blvd. at around 11:22 p.m. Police said Portis pounded on a victim’s vehicle windows with a knife in an attempt to break the windows while the victims were inside the vehicle.

June 20 Police said Tiesha M. Robinson, 34, of Broadview, was transported from the Broadview Police Department to the Addison Police Department to be processed for an original warrant for phone harassment.

June 19 Constantine Kyriazopoulos, 36, of Addison, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon while under the influence of alcohol in the 500 block of W. Lake St. at around 12:55 a.m.

Police said the suspect was in possession of a Glock 43 handgun on his person.

June 17 Willie J. Anderson, 47; Kimberly M. Golidy, 50; and Malcolm D. Golidy, 46, all of Chicago, were charged with retail theft at a pharmacy in the 1-100 block of E. Lake St. at around 12:31 a.m.

Villa Park June 17 • Delatorre Rodrigo, 20, of Addison, and a male juvenile from Naperville were charged with possession of drug paraphernalia at Twin Lakes Park at around 7:41 a.m.

Bond set at $75,000 for library employee charged with sexual abuse, solicitation of child DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced last week that Robert Thulin, 64, of 110 Cherry Street, Roselle, has been charged with two counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse and one count of Indecent Solicitation of a Child, all Class 2 Felonies. Thulin appeared in Bond Court on the morning of June 23, where Judge Joseph Bugos set bond at $75,000 with 10% to apply.

Thulin is a former employee at the Elk Grove Library. Approximately one year ago, it is alleged that Thulin befriended the victim and her family.

It is alleged that over the past year, the defendant texted the victim and gave her money on several occasions during library visits. It is alleged that approximately two weeks ago, Thulin took his victim shopping and during the car ride, Thulin sexually abused his victim. It is further alleged that Thulin invited the victim into his home to have sex. Thulin’s alleged advances toward on his victim were uncovered when a third party discovered a love letter he had allegedly written to his victim.

Thulin’s next court appearance is scheduled for July 10, in front of Judge Daniel Guerin.

Viewpoint Slices of life I used to live a carefree life. I didn’t worry about the future or wars or the economy. I drove on sketchy roads up mountains and even climbed those mountains on occasion. I spent too much money on impractical shoes.

I ordered my chili extra spicy and wore white after Labor Day. I rode a bike without a helmet and drove a car without a seatbelt. I ate fast food and drank sloe gin. I held snakes, dined on sushi and rode rollercoasters with both hands in the air. And then everything changed.

I had kids. Four of them to be exact.

Oh sure, kids bring love and liveliness and spirit and stickiness to your life. They make you think and rethink everything. They also cause you to pay attention to words like safety, security, practical, pragmatic, logical and legal. They add fun and take it away all at the same time. They turn you into a grown up.

wise boisterous and rowdy behavior with responsible adulthood. I read nutrition labels, checking for sodium levels and sugar content. I carried sunscreen in my purse and a first aid kit in the car. I learned CPR. I fastened seatbelts and drank pure spring water. I developed uneasiness when confronted with rollercoasters or sketchy roads. I cut grapes in half. I fretted about someone putting an eye out.

Worrying jumped to the top of my to-do list.

I discovered there are countless

ideas, entities and possibilities a person can choose to worry about.

Car seats. Crib safety. Cabinet locks. Choking hazards. Colic.

Croup. Cleanliness. Cross contamination. Crossing the street. Complications. Collisions. Contusions. Capsizing. Climate concerns. Catastrophes. Clowns.

Life is about attachments, and not just the jpg or pdf varieties. When you are carefree you don’t have attachments. Kids are attachments – sometimes even in the literal sense when they grab onto your leg and won’t let go on the first day of preschool and you worry maybe you are pushing them to grow up too fast – or then again maybe you should have enrolled them a year earlier.

Worry hinges on love and loss.

When you attach to someone other than yourself, your world becomes bigger with possibilities – for love but also for loss. Once you love something, the possibility exists for

hurting or losing it, and that can bring about worry.

Having tiny beings dependent on you for their very existence can feel like a weighty responsibility – because it is. So most parents worry.

Maybe all parents worry. I suspect so.

And here’s something they don’t tell you in Lamaze class: the worry never ends. In some ways it gets bigger. Like an expanding belly during nine months of anticipation, it grows with them – through preschool, middle school, high school and beyond.

When they are young and dependent you worry you will fail them. Forget a permission slip. Show up late to the dance recital. Neglect to teach them proper manners. Give them the wrong dose of medicine. Be too strict – or too lenient.

When they are young all these worries are within your control.

When they grow up and gain independence the angst is still there, but it doesn’t hinge on your actions; it

hinges on theirs and that loss of control can be even more terrifying than parenthood itself.

But if you put it into perspective, it’s manageable. It has to be. Parents love their children; they’ve doing so for eons. This love creates a vulnerability that results in worry. And joy.

And excitement. And happiness. And fulfillment. And accomplishment.

And contentment. And unconditionality. And hopefulness. And peace.

Talk about the good outweighing the bad.

I used to live a carefree life and then I traded it in for parenthood. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

No, better make that four heartbeats.

In addition to sun bathing this summer, try some forest bathing, too

We’ve all know sunbathing, the glorious feel of warm sun on our skin, and you may now have heard about “forest bathing.” Getting out in nature, particularly in green spaces, is good for the soul. The Japanese have coined a term for it - Shinrin-yoku - which means taking in the forest atmosphere and has been dubbed “forest bathing.”

The idea is simple. Go into the forest and just be. Don’t run or jog, walk. Take it all in. Sit. Lie down if you want. Breathe. Just like being in the sun gives us Vitamin D, being in the forest gives us nourishment.

Supposedly the idea/term has been around since the 1980s and forest bathing has become a cornerstone of preventive health care and healing in Japanese medicine.

It’s about simply being in the green dense lush wonderland of trees all around you.

Anyone who has ever gone for a walk in the woods has experienced the calming effect, the restorative sense of peace. The busy mind slows down. Blood pressure low-

ers. Increased energy level and improved sleep are other benefits.

I have long known that the trees do it for me. Some people go to the ocean and sit. They listen and watch the waves. I think that kind of “water bathing” does the same effect. I prefer the forest to the ocean. But being out on the lake in the kayak surrounded by trees on the shore, now that is a slice of heaven.

To each his own, but some kind of nature bathing is key to overall health and well-being, and is available all around us. Studies show that kids with ADHD have more ability to focus after forest bathing, and that’s true for all us. Less stress.

Better mood. Ahhh….

If you are feeling a little uptight, and want to get out of the sun for a bit, go for a stroll in the woods. You

won’t need sunscreen but might want bug spray. We have been out a lot in many different forest preserves this year and have not gotten bitten up. And, knock on wood, no ticks. (I hear a drop of peppermint oil will release the tick like magic.)

You can start small by taking a slow drive through a park. Driving in the woods feels good for me too and I swear it boosts my immune system and increases my overall happiness level just like walking in the woods.

My Prince and I love to walk the woods and also sit and just be. We picnic, we read, we talk, we do art.

Give us a grove of pines and we are tickled with delight. It’s no coincidence that we walked on a floor of pine needles through a small forest to the clearing where we were mar-

ried at an outdoor labyrinth. We just simply know we like the woods. We don’t need any studies or Japanese term, but it’s fun to see that science proves what we instinctly know.

John Muir said, “Keep close to Nature’s heart... and break clear away, once in a while, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods.

Wash your spirit clean.” You don’t need to spend a week in the woods, but an hour a week will do wonders for your health and mood.

Forest Preserve District 2017-18 budget approved The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County approved a budget for fiscal year 2017-2018 that reflects decreased spending versus the prior year and continues to demonstrate the agency’s value to DuPage County residents.

Stevenson named executive director of Forest Preserve District

Ed Stevenson has been named executive director for the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County.

“I’m very pleased to formalize Ed Stevenson’s role as executive director for the District,” said Forest Preserve District of DuPage County President Joe Cantore. “Ed is a tenured member of our leadership team, and in his time overseeing our business enterprises he has demonstrated a keen ability to think creatively, manage big projects, reduce expenses and grow relationships. He’s proven he has the necessary skills and experience to lead this organization.”

Stevenson, who has worked fulltime for the District since 2004, has been serving as interim executive director since November 2016 and has also served as director of golf operations for the District since 2011. He will continue to have direct involvement in the oversight of the District’s golf operations.

“I’m excited to continue working with a very talented District staff and a Board of Commissioners that is passionate about serving DuPage County residents,” said Stevenson.

“The District’s future looks bright, and it’s a privilege to lead an organization that preserves natural resources and connects people to nature.”

Stevenson has recently overseen a major environmental restoration project at The Preserve at Oak Meadows in Addison, which will reopen for golf this summer. Work has included improving stormwater management, providing greater water quality in Salt Creek, enhancing habitat for fish and other aquatic species, and providing the public with a premier 18-hole public golf destination rivaling any in the Midwest.

Under Stevenson’s guidance in the months ahead, District staff will begin working on several major initiatives, including the initiation of a District-wide master plan and the construction of a fleet management building at Blackwell Forest Preserve and a two-lane entrance bridge at McDowell Grove Forest Preserve.

“I think it’s a very sound, fiscally responsible budget that reflects wise use of the financial resources available to the District,” said Jack Hogan, the District’s director of Administration & Finance.

Initiatives slated for funding in 2017-2018 include prairie and wetland restoration at Night Heron Marsh, Cricket Creek and Springbrook Prairie, the indoor riding arena at St. James Farm, a new fleet management facility at Blackwell, a parking lot at Dunham and a raptor dorm at Willowbrook Wildlife Center.

The budget also reflects a continued focus on operating efficiencies and shared services with DuPage County.

“The budget embodies continued operational efficiencies while still providing high-quality services and programs for DuPage County residents,” said Forest Preserve District of DuPage County President Joe Cantore.

“The Board of Commissioners constantly challenges staff to find new operational efficiencies, and they consistently succeed in their efforts.”

An average of 2 percent of a DuPage County homeowner’s tax bill funds the District’s budget. For example, a homeowner with property that has an assessed valuation of $300,000 pays only $160 annually to the District.

IT’s IAC students visit local manufacturing company Students in the Innovation Alive Challenge (IAC) summer program at Indian Trail Junior High School visited a local manufacturing company, Pioneer Service Inc. last week to see the operation first-hand.

President/owner Aneesa Muthana welcomed the students to Pioneer Service and commended them for spending time learning during their summer vacation. Director of Sales Eric Smith showed the students machines that create machine parts, Quality Inspector Yousef Muthana introduced students to a variety of machines and tools that are used to guarantee quality control. Rose of Sharon DeVos talked with students about cost, pricing, and marketing issues that help determine profitability for a business.

The 28 Indian Trail students are currently in week 2 of the Innovation Alive Challenge where they are learning about STEM and business in a hands-on setting. This program, developed by the Science & Entrepreneurship Exchange (SEE), has students working together to create a startup based around a product of their own invention---in this case,

lamps.

The students have done market research, polling potential customers to see what features are important to them in a lamp that would be used in a child’s room.

Each team of students has worked together to come up with a lamp concept, to design their lamp and to build a prototype. The students brought their prototypes and designs to Pioneer where they had the opportunity to give practice presentations of their products to their hosts. Muthana, Smith, Muthana, and DeVos offered feedback and suggestions that might improve each product’s marketability.

The final two weeks of IAC will have students working on cost and pricing determination, marketing, and fine-tuning their prototypes in preparation for a ‘shark tank’-like presentation that will be made on the last day of class. New child support law takes effect July 1 Will be based on the combined net income of both parents

As of July 1, child support will no longer be based on the net income of the non-custodial parent, rather, it will be based on the combined net income of both parents.

Changes to the current child support law in Illinois will significantly change how child support is calculated in Illinois, according to family law attorney Jennifer Guimond-Quigley.

the non-custodial parent’s income.

The new law will have an “income shares” model, based on the child receiving proportional support based on both parents’ income. This is accomplished by using a calculation that includes published data on child rearing costs and both parties’ incomes. Many other states have already adopted this model, finding it to be a more fair approach to child support.

Some of the main characteristics of the “income shares” model include: Will be based on the combined net income of both parents - Under the new law, the court is instructed to “calculate child support based upon the parent’s combined adjusted net income estimated to have been allocated to the child if the parents

and children were living in an intact household.” Guidelines for how much money should be allocated for the care of the child will be put forth by the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (IDHFS).

Shared Parenting - The new law allows adjustments to child support for “shared parenting” situations, which means situations where each parent has the child for at least 146 overnights per year. Basic child support, in this scenario, is multiplied by 1.5 to account for additional costs to care for the child, including transportation between the two residences.

Then, both parties’ net incomes and the parenting time allocated to each parent is taken into account before determining the final child support obligation.

Additional Expenses - These can include extracurricular activities, medical/health care expenses, education and child care costs. If the parties cannot agree, a court has the discretion to order one or both parties to contribute to these expenses.

These changes are important for both custodial and non-custodial parents.

Even if you have a child support order in place, it can still be modified.

For parents who already have a child support order in place, these rules may still be relevant if family or financial circumstances change and the order needs to modified. The order cannot, however, be modified by only citing the new law as the reason for modification.

Addison Trail summer baseball team enjoying new format Blazers mixing game play with practice sessions

So far, so good.

That’s the report Addison Trail baseball coach Mike Kennedy has concerning a new approach to the summer season.

Kennedy cut back on the team’s summer games this year in favor of more practice sessions and more rest for his players during the week in advance of weekend travel-team competition.

“We have a week to go in the summer season and so far we’ve done well,” he said. “We’re playing well and we’re getting a lot of help from

the young guys. We use Monday and Wednesday as camp practice days.

The guys appreciate getting that practice time in.”

Through late last week, Addison Trail was 4-2 in game action.

The Blazers went 3-1 in four games against Plano, defeated Elgin Larkin and lost to Streamwood.

Earlier this week the Blazers continued another new innovation by splitting its team into three separate teams to play three games against West Chicago.

“Everybody gets to play,” said Kennedy.

A total of 10 Fenton girls track student-athletes have been recognized for their accomplishments in the sport.

Briana Aldama, Trisha Butz, Cassidy Feddersen, Cassidy Kelly, Katrina Krebasch, Sarah Mason, Hanna Matuzewski, Jessica McCauley, Mackenzie Miller and Stephany Padilla earned all-Metro Suburban Conference Blue Division honors this past spring.

In girls softball, Jenna Geraci and Anaisa Lazada were all-conference performers. Maria Lara and Lizbeth Reyes earned all-conference recognition in girls soccer.

Jeremy Lodewyck was all-conference in boys track and field. Jeffrey and Joseph Andrews were all-conference in boys’ tennis, while Ricardo Jesus Torres Gomez was all-conference in boys’ gymnastics. Gerrett Focht and Bryan Larsen were all-conference in baseball.

For the winter season, Larsen was all-conference in boys basket-

ball. Nikolas Fischer and Conrad Oberski were all-conference in boys swimming and diving. Dylan Butts, Nikko Castaneda, Kacper Piskorz, Ryan Mencini, Angel Nava and Ivan Rodriguez were all-conference in wrestling.

Amari Benbow was all-conference in girls basketball. Charity Bullis, Faith Bullis, Rachel Matug and Maris Santore were all-conference in cheerleading, while Leslie Aguirre, Lauren Buena, Leslie Castillo and Lauren Gadomski were all-conference in dance force.

During the fall season, Lodewyck, Christian Sanchez and Jose Vazquez-Perez were all-conference in boys cross-country. Butts, Carlos Mercado and Kyle Cacioppo were all-conference in football. Andrew Hill was all-conference in golf.

Angel Barriga, Gerardo Lopez, Abel Carrera and Alioune Mbaye were all-conference in boys soccer.

Cassidy Feddersen was all-conference in swimming and Paulina Milanowski was all-conference in girls volleyball.

“You could consider these the dog days of playing in the summer,” he said.

“Before you could play six games during the week for your high school and then go play as many as eight for your travel team. That’s 14 games in a week. That’s excessive and it’s hard on a kid’s body. Kids get burned out. With this new format, you come in and you get done what you need to get done. It’s two practice days

Kennedy lauded the recent play of

Simon Marinelli, in particular.

“I can’t say enough good things about Simon,” said Kennedy. “He was academic all-state this spring and all-conference. He hit .400 and just went to the junior showcase event and had a double and a single and nobody stole a base on him. He’s continues to impress every time. He takes younger guys under his wing and is helping them with their catching. He’s taken a leadership role. He enjoys helping out. When he leaves here he wants to make sure he’s leaving behind the plate in a good spot.”

Matt Crandall and Bryan Hidalgo-Oritz also have impressed. “Matt has been good on the mound. He didn’t pitch a lot in the spring,” said Kennedy. “Bryan has had a few big hits for us. He’s been impressive.”

Addison Trail was scheduled to end its summer season Wednesday.

“We’re done by the Fourth of July now,” said Kennedy. “Let the kids get on with their summer.”

Girls soccer player Poggi named Chicago Fire academic all-state

The Willowbrook spring athletic programs had healthy representation on the all-West Suburban Conference Gold Division all-conference and all-academic teams.

In boys track, Casey King, Will Schuller, Nathan Sprovieri and Jacob Christiansen were named to the all-WSC Gold team for the indoor season. King, Schuller, Eddie Tribue, Evan Carter, Brandon Loth and Zach Walenga added all-conference honors for the outdoor season.

Matt Brooks, King, Lucas Olson and Sprovieri were all-academic picks for boys track.

For boys volleyball, Calvin Linnig was all-conference. Linnig, Peter Alessandri, Andy Shreckengost and Brendan Waldrof were all-academic selections.

In boys tennis, Mike Pieroni was all-conference at No. 3 singles. Arham Mohammed and Kiran Pentela were all-conference at No. 3 doubles, while Mark Lobdell and Abdullah Kaludi were all-conference at No. 2

doubles.

Habib Hassan, Lobdell and Mohammed were all-academic picks in boys tennis.

For baseball, Ben Espinoza, Jon Kelso, MJ Ranieri, Alec Michaelson, Kyle Ferguson and Mike Dembowski were all-conference choices. Dembowski, Eric Gunst, Scott Kohrt, Ranieri, Michaelson, Ferguson, Kelso and Espinoza were all-academic picks.

Megan Talan and Katie Smith were all-conference for softball, while Talan, Veronica Swan, Allison Letson and Emily King were all-academic honoreers.

In girls track, Miani Blackwell, Yesenia Vivero and Kyla Denwood were all-conference picks. Denwood earned all-state honors after placing third in the discus at the state meet.

Academic all-conference for girls track included Elizabeth Amador, Grace Guthrie, Denwood, Jessica Taylor and Khalilah Brooks.

In girls badminton, Grace Chantos, Hannah Konrath, Hannah Hewitt, Sam Asher, Hailey Vogt,

Millie Zachariah, Milena Sogura, Charlotte Dewyer, Luz Alcala, Grace Wachholz and Ashley Garcia were all-conference.

Chantos, Hewitt, Asher, Sogura and Garcia were academic all-conference picks. Chantos and Konrath were state qualifiers.

In boys gymnastics, Zack Zeffiro was all-conference on floor and vault. Matt Barrantes was all-conference on pommel horse. Nick Donaldson was all-conference on horse and rings. Dylan Leska was all-conference on vault and horizontal bar.

Miguel Portilla was all-conference on parallel bars and horizontal bar.

Academic all-conference picks for boys gymnastics included Miguel Mora, Ali Mirza, Ryan Luner, Zeffiro, Barrantes and Leska.

For girls soccer, Valentina Poggi and Lesly Montoya were all-conference picks. Poggi, Montoya and Emily Ashman were academic all-conference choices.

Poggi was an all-sectional pick and also earned Chicago Fire Academic All-State Team honors.

Elmhurst American Legion baseball team defeats Wauconda Muddogs reach midpoint of season; optimistic about stretch run

The midseason report card is in.

And Elmhurst American Legion Post 187 baseball coach Mike Biondo gives his squad high marks for its progress thus far.

“We’ve made progress overall.

We’re better than we were Day 1,” said Biondo. “Where we are at now, we have improved tremendously, especially at the bat. We had no errors in the game against Wauconda, which is huge. It’s good to see our errors are down. We’re coming up on the home stretch here. If we can keep the pitching going and the bats going that is going to carry us into the playoffs.”

Elmhurst also received a forfeit conference win against Lake in the Hills due to LITH not having enough players. At the same time, Elmhurst had to forfeit a conference game to Elgin Post 57 due to not having enough players. Biondo noted his squad was missing several players due to injury and others due to taking college entrance exams.

“We had a bunch of guys taking entry exams for college,” he said.

“Guys have graduated from highschool and have a lot going on with colleges.”

Through the first 10 games, Elmhurst was averaging around five runs

a game, while hitting .279 as a team with 10 doubles, four triples and 22 RBI. Elmhurst also had 28 stolen bases as a team against only six caught stealings.

As a team, Post 187 had a team ERA of 2.14 with 10 earned runs allowed in 42 innings of work. Muddog pitchers had 38 strikeouts and 26 walks in those 42 innings.

Elmhurst has a busy week scheduled with games against Streator Post 217, Frankfort Post 1977, Kenosha, Wis., and Wheaton Post 76 Thunder tonight behind the Carol Stream American Legion Post.

Godinez looking forward to taking over IC Catholic Prep girls soccer team

Tony Godinez is quite familiar with the architect of the greatest season in IC Catholic Prep girls soccer history.

Godinez coached with former IC Catholic Prep girls’ coach Tom Schergen at Mount Carmel in Chicago, Maria and Queen of Peace.

Godinez is IC Catholic Prep’s new girls’ coach after Schergen stepped down as the Knights’ girls’ coach when he was promoted to president of the school. Schergen directed the Knights to an appearance in the state semifinals this past spring.

“I’ve known Tom for quite some time,” Godinez said. “We’ve known each other back to our days at De La Salle High School. He was a senior and I was a sophomore. He’s done a very good job with the athletic programs at IC. He asked me if I was interested in coaching there.”

Godinez said he went and watched IC Catholic Prep play in the state playoffs.

“I watched them play and I thought it would be a good fit for me,” he said. “Their center-midfield is very strong and I noticed the girls work very well together. I also saw a lot of potential. They have even more to give. In another year I see them improving even more with the

speed of the game and getting their soccer IQ even higher. I saw them play U-High and they were very focused and very determined to win.

They fought for the win and ended up making school history.

Godinez, who played soccer at De La Salle and at Lewis University in Romeoville, already has met with the team. “I was introduced to the girls about four weeks ago and talked to them,” he said. “We want to help these girls get to the next level. I’ve coached more than 40 kids who have played or are playing college soccer. There are four or five girls here who are interested in playing at the next level. I would love to help them with that process and help them understand what coaches are looking for and how you get to that point and be a great student-athlete in high school and college.”

IC Catholic Prep’s new coach said specific team goals have not yet been set.

“I know they want to do even better than they did last season,” said Godinez. “They took fourth and there is a strong possibility they can do the same or even better. It’s a matter of setting goals and achieving them. A state championship is always the goal when you have gone downstate the previous year.”

‘Rock ‘N Wheels’ returns to Village Green on June 29

The 5th annual “Salute the Troops” night at the “Rock ‘N Wheels” weekly summer festival will be on June 29 from 6-10 p.m. at Addison’s new Village Green, 1 Friendship Plaza. Personal care and non-perishable items will be collected on site to benefit Operation Support Our Troops America, which collects and sends care packages directly to American service men and women overseas. Music will be by “Sammy Ray & The Texas Flood” at 6:30 and “Eliminator”, a ZZ Top tribute band, at 7:30 p.m., on the 95.9 The River “Rock ‘N Wheels” stage. “All American” is the food theme with menu items for sale by Addison restaurants 601 Bar & Grill, Nardi’s, Famous Dave’s, Alta Villa, Muggs ‘n Manor, and Firehouse Subs, a new Addison restaurant and Rock ‘N Wheels vendor, plus desserts from Uncle Harry’s Ice Cream and Millie’s Pancake Shoppe.

Community partners include Addison V.F.W., Addison Knights of Columbus, Addison Public Library, Addison Park District, Addison Fire Protection District, Northeast DuPage Special Recreation Association, and Ardmore School PTA. The Historical Museum, south of the Village Green, hosts a craft fair and tours of the museum until 8 p.m.
