No injuries in Elmhurst house fire Bensenville among seven communities to provide mutual aid

At 3:45 a.m. on the morning of Wednesday, June 15, Elmhurst firefighters were called to the scene of a residential house fire on the 100 block of East Marion Street after a passerby noticed the fire and called 911. Assisting mutual aid departments included Oak Brook, Oakbrook Terrace, York Center, Villa Park, Bensenville, Northlake and Lombard. Within minutes, firefighters arrived and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof of the home. Firefighters were informed that an Elmhurst police officer had safely evacuated the sole occupant of the home. No injuries were reported. Firefighters extinguished the fire in approximately one hour and discovered that the fire had started in the attic of the home. The home was deemed uninhabitable. Due to the location of the home, Palmer Drive was closed in both directions between Schiller and S. York. Marion was closed in both directions between Arlington and Palmer Drive. All roads were reopened by 7:55 a.m. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the DuPage County Task Force. Damage estimates are unknown at press time. This release was issued by the City of Elmhurst.
