Park District to celebrate Breiter-Palm Park opening
New ‘playground for all’ dedication includes family activities
The Bensenville Park District is reopening Breiter-Palm Park in style with a grand opening celebration featuring a dedication, free food and fun activities planned from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday, June 18. The dedication, scheduled for 10:30 a.m., will feature park district commissioners and local leaders. Activities will include a bubble table, scavenger hunt, nature-based sensory table, a bird-feeder craft, clay station, a flower craft and wildflower planting. The event is free and open to the public. The park, located on Church Road south of Memorial Drive, has been closed for nearly a year to install a new “playground for all” intended to be community gathering place for children of all abilities to enjoy. “The park district’s goal is to improve the quality of life for all of our residents on a daily basis,” said Bensenville Park District executive director Joseph C. Vallez. “The plans for this ADA-enhanced playground project came out of an October 2020 meeting between the park district and the local special needs community. The new playground will allow children with many different abilities to grow and play with each other.”

Led by Coach Matthew Sedey, these young men helped unpack, sort and load food into cars for 150 families in need – and then went to practice. An anonymous donor paid for the truckload of food.

Bensenville, Wood Dale to receive Stormwater Management ARPA grants DuPage County’s Stormwater Management Department accepted grant proposals from municipalities for flood control and water quality projects countywide. The selected projects will be partially funded using an allocation of DuPage County’s American Recovery Plan Act (ARPA) funding from the federal government. Open to municipal governments, DuPage County’s grant will award
funding to shovel-ready projects that demonstrate flood protection and resilience measures. The County will provide a 50/50 cost-share of up to $500,000 per awarded project. The grant encourages projects that build resilience and offer strong multi-jurisdictional and multi-purpose benefits. This grant program will distribute an estimated $8 million of that funding. Among the grant recipients is the
Village of Bensenville for the Addison Creek Storm Sewer Improvement Project, which has a cost estimate of $2,702,000. The requested grant share is $500,000. The City of Wood Dale is also among the grant recipients for its Tall Oaks Retention Basin Retrofit Project, which has an estimated cost of $413,481. The requested grant share is $206,740.
