Chicago Mission hockey team recognized at Village Board meeting
On Tuesday, April 23, Village President Frank DeSimone and the Village Board recognized the 16U AAA Chicago Mission Girls Hockey Team for being crowned the 16U AAA National Champions for the second consecutive season. The Chicago Mission 16U Girls AAA Hockey Team ended the season with a 56-10-5 record. The team is led by head coach Erin Rourke-Smith and assistant coach Mary DeBartolo. Their season concluded by defeating Selects Academy at the national championship game in Irvine, California on April 9, 2019. The Chicago Mission Girls Hockey organization is based out of Bensenville’s very own Edge Ice Arena. This is the team’s second year calling the Edge Ice Arena their home ice as well as their second consecutive national title. “As a big fan of youth athletics, it is an honor to have the number one 16U Mission Girls AAA Hockey Team based right here in Bensenville at the Edge Ice Arena,” ” said President DeSimone. “Congratulation on your second straight win and we wish you the best of luck for next year.” The national champion Chicago Mission Girls AAA Hockey Team for 2019 consisted of the following players (listed alphabetically, not as pictured): Veronica Bac, Anna Baxter, Ashley Bialas, Vivian Cronin, Maggie Culp, Madison Gagliano, Ellie Kaiser, Maggie Korneta, Gabby Marciniak, Peyton-Rose Norman, Ella Ridge, Claire Sammons, Caroline Smith, Samantha Steciak, Leslie Steiner, Alexandra Thomas, Emma SUBMITTED PHOTO Bensenville Independent Thomas, Anya Weilamdt, Maddie The Chicago Mission 16U Girls AAA Hockey Team was recognized by Village President Frank DeSimone and the Bensenville Village Board Zack and Clara Zubor. for winning the first place national championship for the second straight year.
