Bensenville programming for seniors, disabled receives awards

The Village of Bensenville was recognized with two Service Improvement Awards from the American Public Works Association (APWA), one from the Suburban Branch and a second from the Chicago Metro Chapter. The Village will now compete against 63 other chapters throughout the nation with a chance to take home the national award at the September APWA conference in Seattle. Shortly after being elected in 2017, Village President Frank DeSimone tasked the Bensenville Public Works Department with developing, implementing, and managing snow plowing and grass cutting programs for disabled and income-qualified senior residents. Last year, the Public Works Department successfully launched both programs where they served Bensenville seniors and residents with disabilities who needed assistance in snow removal and grass cutting on their properties. To help reduce the cost of the program to residents, the Village hired outside contractors and subsidized 50% of the cost. Because of the success of these programs, the American Public Works Association (APWA) recognized the Village of Bensenville with a Service Improvement Award for their efforts. Director of Public Works Joe Caracci presented the two awards to Village President Frank DeSimone at a Village Board Meeting on April 16, 2019. “One of my goals when taking office was to provide senior and disabled residents programs like these and seeing them come together is extremely rewarding,” said DeSimone. “This would not have been possible, SUBMITTED PHOTO Bensenville Independent however, without our dedicated staff Director of Public Works Joe Caracci (2nd from left) presents two American Public Works Association awards to Village President Frank at Public Works and their continued hard work to make these programs a DeSimone as a result of the successful implementation of the Village’s senior and disabled grass cutting and snow plowing programs.
