DuPage County releases most recent COVID-19 Case Counts

As of April 5 at press time, the total cases of COVID-19 in DuPage County are 647 including 22 deaths. Of those, 88 are outbreak-associated and 559 non-outbreakassociated cases. Outbreak-associated cases are linked to a congregate setting, e.g., long-term care facilities, workplaces, schools; or large gatherings, such as a convention or concert. Since April 4, there were 41 new cases of COVID-19 in DuPage County including three deaths. Regarding the 88 outbreak-associated cases (including 14 deaths) among DuPage County residents:
 • 42 cases (including seven deaths) are attributed to the Willowbrook long-term care facility (LTCF); • 25 cases (including 7 deaths) are attributed to 7 additional LTCFs; and
 • 21 cases are attributed to 10 outbreaks in other congregate settings and large gatherings. DuPage County Health Department (DCHD) announced three additional deaths of persons with COVID-19 infection reported since April 4: • Female resident of DuPage County in her 80s with underlying conditions who had been living in the community;
 • Female resident of DuPage County in her 70s who had been living in the community; and
 • Female resident of a Naperville long-term care facility in her 70s with underlying conditions.
 DCHD expresses our deepest sympathies to the families and caregivers of these individuals. We continue to work closely with our healthcare and community partners to reduce risk of COVID-19 complications and death, especially in our most vulnerable populations.

Counting the days…

Bob Lahey is on a ladder, changing the number on a banner he and his wife Liz hung on their garage, where it will remain until the Coronavirus crisis has lifted. Every evening, the Laheys go outdoors and change the number while having a toast to being a day closer to freedom and safety. Neighbors Jeff and Jodi Redick brought this to the attention of the Independent. 371066
