At the Village of Bensenville Board Meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 28, the Bensenville Police Department recognized officers with Awards of Valor and Village President Frank DeSimone swore in two new police officers. Officer Kristian Casillas, Officer Stephens, Detective Christopher Staffeldt, Sergeant Bradley Swanson, and Sergeant Oliva were recognized for assisting in a bank robbery, which resulted in an arrest. Police Chief Dan Schulze awarded Officer Casillas and Detective Staffeldt with an Award of Valor for their actions. He also awarded Officer Stephens, Sergeant Swanson, and Sergeant Oliva with an honorable mention as they all played a key role in making the arrest. The Award of Valor is the highest level award the Police Chief can offer. These awards came as a result of their actions, which occurred on Dec. 18, where a report of an armed bank robbery at the U.S. Bank in Wood Dale came over the radio. The officers quickly responded to the call and were able to catch up to the suspect in Northlake, where they tactically maneuvered to make the final arrest. Bensenville Police Chief Dan Schulze commended the officers for their actions. “When Officer Casillas, Detective Staffeldt, Sergeant Swanson, Sergeant Oliva, and Officer Stephens showed up for work that day, they didn’t know if they would be crossing kids at a school crossing or doing this, but they never gave it a second thought,” he said. He also thanked the residents of Bensenville and the Village Board for their continued support towards the department. During the meeting, Village President Frank DeSimone also swore in two new police officers.
