Bensenville approves budget with zero percent property tax increase

On Nov. 8, Bensenville Village President Frank Soto and the Board of Trustees unanimously approved the Village’s 2017 budget with a zero percent property tax increase. The Village has the ability to increase property taxes up to five percent each year without a referendum, but through a rigorous budget process leadership was able to identify savings in operating expenses and through increased efficiencies without any increase at all. “It is not an uncommon practice for many communities to levy the maximum amount of property tax they can each year,” said Bensenville Finance Director Amit Thakkar. “We take the opposite approach in Bensenville, trying to find creative ways to maintain or improve our level of service without increasing our property taxes. I am proud to say we accomplished that with our 2017 budget.” Even with a zero percent property tax increase the Village is able to have an aggressive capital project schedule for 2017. A few key projects include the Redmond Reservoir expansion, Church Road reconstruction project, and Edge II Ice Arena rink floor replacement. Recalling the first Thanksgiving

These three local third graders prepare to dig in to a traditional feast while learning about the first Thanksgiving in social studies class. Students were asked to dress as either a Native American or a Pilgrim. After a blessing they enjoyed a meal of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and all the trimmings.
