The drug requires a prescription from a doctor, and the law now also protects doctors who write ‘standing prescriptions’ to municipalities for EpiPens. “This law will save countless lives,” the Governor said. The bill signing was accompanied by an announcement that Elmhurst is the first Illinois municipality to receive a doctor’s prescription so each police vehicle can be equipped with EpiPens. Other towns are poised to follow suit as soon as training of their officers is completed. The bill, now known as ‘Anniie LeGere’s Law’ was championed by Shelly LeGere, whose daughter Annie died from an allergic reaction suffered at a sleep-over party in 2015. The 13 year old girl might have been saved if the police at that time had access to and training in administering EpiPens. Sponsored by Republican State Senator Chris Nybo, an Elmhurst resident, and Democrat State Rep. Deb Conroy, Annie LeGere’s Law was hailed as a truly bi-partisan
