ACA receives grants to fund programs for students

The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has awarded the Addison Center for the Arts $10,000 in the discipline of “Arts Engagement in American Communities” including Reaching Out Through the Arts, a multi-faceted arts education program for elementary and middle school students for 2017-18. In 20142015, the ACA also received $10,000 for the same grant proposal. Three projects will be fulfilled for this grant: • Arts Alive: A n After School Program is an ongoing program for students in grades 6-8 at Indian Trail Junior High School bringing in professional artists in the disciplines of music, dance, theater, creative writing and visual arts during the hours from 3 to 5 pm during several workshops in a safe environment. (three workshop sessions) beginning in September, 2017. • Lyric Opera in the Neighborhoods which will include two performances by the Lyric Opera of Chicago on October 26, ,2017 with “Scorpions Sting”. Approximately 1,800 students in grades 4-6 will be afforded this opportunity taking place in the auditorium of Addison Trail High School. • Salt Creek Ballet Company will perform the ballet “Carnival of the Animals” by Saint-Saens in April, 2018. Two performances will take place in the auditorium of ATHS for students in grades 2-5. Other grants • Another grant was received from the Illinois Arts Council Agency (IACA) for $1,200 which will cover general expenses and marketing. ACA programs are partially supported by the IACA through federal funding by the National Endowment for the Arts. • The JCS Fund from the DuPage Foundation awarded ACA a grant for $3,700 for the “Arts Alive: An After School Program” which has been given grants from them yearly since 2012.
