Addison among 15 county park districts to receive state grant Lake Manor Nature Preserve project receives $396,200

Gov. JB Pritzker has announced $30.3 million in grants for 87 local park projects that will help communities acquire open space and develop and improve recreational facilities throughout Illinois. A list of this year’s OSLAD grant recipients includes the Addison Park

District for the Lake Manor Nature Preserve in the amount of $396,200. “Investments in our local parks are investments in our communities,” Pritzker said. “Park projects don’t just create jobs and boost local economic development—they open the gateway for

a healthier, happier Illinois. Every family in our state deserves nearby access to outdoor public spaces where they can gather with their friends and neighbors—and enjoy some sunshine, too.” The grants announced are through the state’s Open Space Land Acqui-

sition and Development (OSLAD) program, administered by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR). OSLAD grants can provide up to one-half of a project’s funds and, when combined with the investment of local matching funds, will support more than $56 million in

local park development projects and land acquisitions statewide. The OSLAD program began in 1987 and has invested $433.5 million in 1,816 local park projects. The program receives dedicated funding from a percentage of the state’s Real Estate Transfer Tax.

Four months before the general election, six incumbent state lawmakers appeared primed for an early rejection by voters based on unofficial tallies last week. Among them was Kathleen Willis. In the 77th District, which includes O’Hare Airport and the suburbs of Bensenville and Addison among others, five-term incumbent Democrat and Addison native Kathleen Willis trailed challenger Norma Hernandez by about 200 votes as of July 8. Hernandez had the backing of progressive U.S. Congressman Jesus “Chuy” Garcia, as well as powerful labor unions such as the Mid America Carpenters Union and the Chicago Laborers’ District Council. Willis was a member of Madigan’s leadership team who ultimately opposed Madigan’s reelection as speaker
