District 88 recognizes 2020 program cover design artist During its June 8 meeting, the District 88 Board of Education and administration recognized Addison Trail student Maria (Mia) Doudalis (class of 2022) as the winner of the 2020 District 88 Staff Recognition Dinner program cover design contest. Doudalis was honored with a $100 gift card and a certificate celebrating her accomplishment. The meeting took place virtually because of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

This year, the District 88 Staff Recognition Dinner Planning Committee implemented a contest for Addison Trail and Willowbrook students to design the cover for the event’s program. Twelve students submitted entries, and the committee judged the designs. Doudalis was selected as the winner and her design also was featured in the Addison Trail Student Recognition Program.

This year, District 88 recognized five retirees, as well as 66 individuals who have served District 88 for 10 years or more and have given 1,145 years of combined service to students at Addison Trail and Willowbrook.

DuPage County announces new COVID-19 testing sites Two new testing sites are being opened and made available to DuPage County residents in the next few weeks. A new drive-through COVID-19 testing site was expected to open at the DuPage County Complex on Tuesday, June 16. All residents of DuPage County can be tested, and no appointment, doctor referral, or insurance is needed.

“Thanks to our collaboration with Gov. Pritzker, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH)

and the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA), we now have a public COVID-19 testing facility in DuPage County for the convenience of our residents,” said DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin. “It’s my hope we can test thousands of individuals for the novel coronavirus, thus detecting and providing timely public health guidance and referral support for our residents who need it. We will continue to work with state and

local experts utilizing best public health practices, including testing and contact tracing, to help us reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our communities.”

The DuPage County COVID-19 testing site, which will be accessible through the county campus’ main entrance off County Farm Road, will be open Tuesday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., or until 400 tests are completed each day.

The COVID-19 test is free.

“It’s important to have robust testing available to our residents, to assist us in learning how prevalent COVID-19 is, which will allow us to reduce the spread of the virus,” said Karen Ayala, executive director, DuPage County Health Department.

To ensure the safety of testing personnel, the test will be done while you are sitting in your vehicle. You must be sitting at a functioning window and cannot exit your vehicle while at the test site.

No motorcycles will be allowed to enter.

Another site available in Willowbrook In addition, DuPage County is supporting a testing site in Willowbrook, which will double the number of individuals who are able to be tested and receive a physical health check. Beginning this week, and continuing until August, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, testing will be available through Pillars Community Health with drive-up testing at Anne M. Jeans Elementary School in Willowbrook. You do NOT have to be an existing Pillars Community Health patient or enrolled at Anne Jeans School to be eligible.

Testing is available to anyone with symptoms of COVID-19; or anyone with a known exposure to COVID-19 (have been in contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19); or asymptomatic, high-risk patients, first responders, health care workers, or essential workers who wish to be tested.

In an effort to assist small businesses and independent contractors impacted by COVID-19, DuPage County in conjunction with Choose DuPage is providing grants to use for employee retention payroll, utilities, and rent.

DuPage County has been recognized with an Achievement Award from the National Association of Counties (NACo). The awards honor innovative, effective county government programs that strengthen services for residents.

NACo recognized the Recovery and Manufacturing-A Path Up (RAMP-Up) program in the Community and Economic Development Category. The RAMP-Up program provides manufacturing certification training to individuals in recovery from opioid use and substance abuse, allowing them to obtain meaningful employment, while also providing local employers with a distinct talent pool. The program began with a public-private partnership started by DuPage County’s Workforce Development Division (workNet DuPage) and the Heroin-Opioid Prevention and Education (HOPE) Taskforce.

Addison Park District announces recent program updates According to the Addison Park District, as of Monday, June 8, registration has been open for the following programs: Addison All Star Summer, golf, youth athletics, fitness classes and more.

Elmhurst College offers free webinar The COVID-19 pandemic continues to create unprecedented economic and public health challenges for local governments, businesses and other institutions as they move toward reopening to a new normal.

On Thursday, June 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Elmhurst College will host a free webinar, “Fast and Safe Reopenings and Recovery Using Open Data, Project Management and Compliance to Standards.” The webinar will explore evidence-based strategies to help communities reopen safely, build consumer and employee confidence, and restore long-lasting economic prosperity.

This service is free and available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Callers seeking assistance remain anonymous and will provide only their first name and zip code, which enables the service to link you to a counselor in your area who is knowledgeable about available local resources.

During uncertain times, life can feel completely disrupted. Things

seem confused and sense of time may be lost. You may feel vulnerable and helpless. Sleep patterns may be disrupted, and you may feel tired all the time. Emotional “numbness” may continue as a means of coping with what is happening. As the scope of the impact of the coronavirus becomes more apparent, you may feel overwhelmed and even angry. Protests can cause stress when local incidents are in the news.

Signs of stress may include: • Irritability • Depression • Fearfulness

• Anger • Fatigue • Helplessness • Physical complaints • Sleep disturbance • Lack of concentration • Loss of appetite Recognizing these emotions and reactions helps you to better understand your experience and deal with them. In time, we will recover.

Just like adults, each child reacts differently to stress. Some kids might want to talk about it, while others may not. What’s important is to give them an opportunity to talk about that they are feeling. It’s ok to follow their lead. Focus on speaking calmly and reassuringly.

Common signs of stress in younger children might include: • Nightmares • Bed wetting • Thumb sucking • Excessive fear of the dark • Increase in immature behavioral • Increase in aggressive behavior

or shyness • Change in eating Give your child information, which can be easily understood.

Most importantly, give a lot of reassurance to your child. The family is the best source of help and comfort for your child.

Remember, your emotional response to COVID-19 and protests is completely normal. If symptoms continue to worsen, get the help of a professional to assist you in the process.

Talking to kids about the Spirito! Singers to go virtual this fall new reality during COVID-19 Navigating life during the COVID-19 pandemic can be difficult.

Like everyone, children have questions and are facing their own struggles as they grapple with this new normal.

Adults may be unsure how to broach this topic with their children.

These tips may help adults talk to their children about their new reality during the pandemic: • Provide the (age-appropriate) facts. Younger children may picture the virus as a scary monster that can sneak through their window, said Dan Santangelo, LCPC with Linden Oaks Behavioral Health. Let them know it’s a small germ and talk to them about catching their sneeze or cough in their elbow, keeping their hands clean and being careful not to touch their eyes, nose or mouth.

For older children, relate it to something they already know. For example, much like a cold or flu virus, COVID-19 can spread through the air when someone coughs, sneezes or

talks. The distance germs travel can be up to 6 feet, according to research, which is how social distancing became a way to avoid contracting the virus.

Provide the facts (in an age-appropriate manner) and let them ask questions.

• Give them a role in the fight against the virus. “I find that kids want to help if you encourage them and let them know you need their help,” said Santangelo. Let kids know that handwashing, wearing a mask when out in public, wiping down frequently-touched surfaces, and using their elbow to play catch with their sneezes and coughs all contribute to the fight against the virus.

• Pay attention to the messages you’re sending and be honest. “Kids are radars,” says Santangelo. “They feel us and they know (when something is wrong). They always do.”

Some adults may be dealing with a job loss or the loss of a loved one. Discussing these weightier topics with children can be tricky, but providing them with information about what’s happening takes away the fear of the unknown,

says Santangelo. Parents might also consider contacting a counselor to help their family deal with the situation.

• Reassure them that this is temporary and they are safe. It isn’t yet known whether school will be open in the fall, but tell kids what is known so they understand what to expect in the short term. Let kids know that questions will be answered as soon as information is available.

• Stick to a schedule. It may look different than what they’re used to, but parents should try to maintain some structure to the day where it matters most. Keep set wake and sleep times, eat meals together, schedule family game time, and encourage kids to stay active, such as going for walks, riding their bikes or shooting hoops in the driveway.

Keeping children in the loop with clear communication will help the whole family get through this pandemic together.

COVID-19 updates for DuPage County Cantigny Park to reopen on As of 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 14, there were 8,434 total cases among DuPage County residents, including 429 deaths. Since Sunday, there were 32 new cases including one death in persons with COVID-19 infection reported. The death was a male in his 80s.

This second stage of Cantigny’s “phased” reopening is based on current guidance from the State of Illinois and public health authorities and is subject to change. The health and safety of visitors and staff remains the park’s top priority. Heightened cleaning and disinfecting procedures are in place, and guests are expected to practice social distancing. Face coverings are not required outside, but all visitors must wear a mask

when using park restrooms.

Only Cantigny’s gardens and grounds will be accessible. The Visitors Center (except for restrooms), McCormick House and the First Division Museum remain closed. The playground and Army tanks also are temporarily off limits. Full-service outdoor dining will be available daily on the Bertie’s Bistro patios from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Park programs and events through July have been canceled, postponed or moved online. Cantigny’s websites and social media channels continue to offer digital experiences including special live events and museum tours.

In order to keep our community of singers safe, Spirito! Singers will begin the 2020-21 season virtually. A wide variety of courses will be available that will build on singers’ skills and help them become stronger, more confident musicians. Class sizes will be small, to ensure that students receive individual coaching and attention, and facilitate group discussion and critique. The courses, including music technology, composition, conducting, songwriting, and vocal technique, will culminate in a virtual showcase that students can share with friends and family to celebrate their accomplishments.

For the first time, Spirito! Singers will also open its doors to nonauditioned singers, allowing prospective choristers to join for the virtual fall. In order to ensure that our current singers (those who sang with us in the 2019-2020 season, or who successfully complete an audition this summer) get first access to programming, fall enrollment will launch with a Priority Registration period from July 1 - July 13.

On July 13, any unclaimed class spots will be released to the general public. Singers who would like to try out the Spirito! culture without auditioning are encouraged to sign up for online classes July 13 at www.spiritosingers.org Classes will be one hour in length and will run for 12 weeks. Tuition will be $175 per course, and singers are welcome to register for more than one course.

Man gets two years for attack of special needs grocery bagger

On Wednesday, June 10, DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced that a Bartlett man had been sentenced to two years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for punching and kicking a Jewel grocery store bagger last summer. Bruce Mirabella, 51, of Bartlett, appeared in Court Wednesday morning in front of Judge Brian Telander, who imposed the sentence.

On March 4, 2020, immediately following a four-hour-long bench trial, Judge Telander found Mirabella guilty of one countCLIENT of Aggravated Battery, a Class 3 Felony.

Following the guilty verdict, Judge Telander revoked Mirabella’s bond and

he was taken into custody. Mirabella had previously been out on bond after posting 10%, or $5,000 of his $50,000 bond.

On July 22, 2019, officers with the Bartlett Police Department responded to the Jewel grocery store located on Sterns Road in response to a battery of a store employee. Through their investigation, officers learned that at approximately 9:45 p.m., Mirabella went to the store to purchase alcohol. While in the checkout line, Mirabella approached the victim, a bagger who has special needs, and punched him in the face, then kicked him on the left side of his back, before fleeing the store. “Without provocation and with malicious intent, Bruce Mirabella violently attacked an innocent man at work,” Berlin said. “What I find particularly upsetting about Mr. Mirabella’s inexcusable behavior is the fact that the victim in this case was a special needs individual who posed no threat to Mr. Mirabella whatsoever. This morning, Mr. Mirabella learned that his inability to control himself will cost him the next two years of his freedom.”

Mirabella will be required to serve 50% of his sentence before being eligible for parole.

I would like to thank the Appellate Court for their thorough review of Mr. Emanuele’s claims and for seeing through his attempt to minimize his culpability in the death of a young girl.”

Before being eligible for parole, Emanuele must serve 75% of his 20year sentence for Drug Induced Homicide and 50% of his four-year sentence for Indecent Solicitation of a Child, consecutively for a total of 17 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

The dangers of isolation in addiction recovery Hospital offers perspective on other medical issues amid COVID-19

A well-known recovery mantra for addiction programs is “we cannot do this alone.” Yet the current pandemic is forcing people into isolation.

Addiction is a disease that breeds from isolation, and this pandemic has unfortunately created that landscape. Although many businesses have been closed, addiction does not take a break — and neither does recovery.

The pandemic has eliminated resources or changed the way in which they are delivered.

Actions that have long been discouraged in recovery, like isolation, are now being offered as solutions to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Structure and predictability are two key components to a foundation for recovery. Regular in-person check-ins and meetings create safety, security and freedom from judgment for those in recovery. Yet, in-person meetings that were once plentiful have been transitioned to virtual meetings. For many, it is not enough. Those in recovery attend meetings to be social, feel connected, and be around people. This level of connection and fellowship is currently missing with the digital experience.

Addiction is a disease of isolation. Social and emotional isolation during COVID-19 can bombard individuals with unwanted thoughts, feelings and memories and lead to both physical and emotional discomfort. One cannot escape their own mind no matter how hard they try.

Some individuals use substances to “solve” the “problem” of feeling, which often leads to the development of co-existing conditions.

Additionally, social media has been inundated with a wave of virtual happy hours and day drinking posts. People are normalizing drinking alcohol “to get through the stress.” Social media has become a possible trigger and unsafe outlet for those in recovery.

Likewise, the opioid epidemic has not slowed during this time and it has been identified as the pandemic within the pandemic. The medical profession has taken great strides in effectively addressing and treating opioid use disorder, and it is critical that COVID-19 does not undo the progress that has been made.

This is truly a challenging time for those in recovery who are battling both the addiction and the stigma that comes with the disease. This journey reinforces the need for community, structure and daily commitments to recovery.

Social isolation creates a very scary environment. Those in recovery should try to stay as connected as possible, reflect on the challenges they’ve overcome, and validate their own recovery efforts. Practicing new routines and rituals that promote recovery will alleviate emotional distress and reinforce that this too shall pass.

Mazzochi: Administrative failures inside and outside of IDES demand an audit State Rep. Deanne Mazzochi (R-Elmhurst) has called for an audit of the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) to better understand and assess its dismal performance over the last two months.

Mazzochi explained that her office has received repeated pleas for help from at-risk residents who lost their jobs because of the Governor’s shutdown order, “with no time to plan or prepare their lives or their finances.”

Applicants for unemployment payments have reported lengthy delays and technological problems with the IDES computer system and the state’s toll-free unemployment hotline. The agency also experienced a massive data breach that publicly disclosed the social security numbers and other private information of over 32,000 individuals. While Republican legislators immediately brought this to the Governor’s attention, the administration has resisted disclosing details about how many others’ data was put at risk; and how it plans to remedy the problem going forward.

Making matters worse, in April IDES entered into two nobid contracts totaling over $20 million for another unemployment system and to oversee hiring more telephone agents to field applications for unemployment benefits. The difficulties and frustrations with both the computer and telephone systems continued unabated.

Mazzochi explained that an audit will shed light on the underlying issues that led to the myriad of problems district residents faced with IDES. Mazzochi reiterated that the “failures at IDES, both to ensure that people can access a vital safety net during this pandemic and to protect Illinoisans’ data, need to be addressed and investigated.”

“As a result of the Governor’s actions over a million Illinoisans were left out of work and then left in the cold by IDES,” Mazzochi continued. “The lax oversight of this administration by the legislature must be corrected. Illinois government needs to act as the responsible stewards of public money we are meant to be. Until then, any and all miscalculations and misappropriations need to be properly investigated and addressed.”

Mazzochi warned that “despite repeated failures at IDES there has been a clear lack of interest by the administration in getting to the bottom of what happened and making necessary changes. No-bid contracts are antithetical to transparency and ensuring proper use of taxpayer money. The Governor ensured state workers—including at IDES— received $261 million dollars in raises this year. But the people are tired of seeing government fail again and again with their money, and with zero repercussions to those exercising administrative power.” Mazzochi added, “the time has come for an independent assessment to ensure that this never happens again.”

House Resolution 860 directs the Illinois Auditor General to conduct an audit of IDES and the unemployment benefits application. The audit will examine the possibility of another data breach, other vulnerabilities of the data of millions of Illinoisans who have applied for unemployment, and a review of the no-bid contracts. Eagle watching brought joy to our summers

Bald eagles are majestic creatures with wingspans to match (six to eight feet). They are the national bird of the United States, the therefore inherently demand (and deserve) our respect.

Bald eagles used to be in short supply. In the late 20th century they were on the brink of extinction in the contiguous United States. Populations recovered and the bald eagle was removed from the endangered species list and transferred to the list of threatened species in 1995. I’m happy to report it was removed from that list in 2007. Soar eagle, soar!

Bald eagles currently live in Canada, Alaska, all 48 contiguous states and northern Mexico. They are thriving and we are glad.

We’ve been watching the eagles on the lake by our cabin for years. We know where they nest and each spring look forward to revisiting “our” eagles and wonder how many eaglets they will have in the nest. Sometimes there is just one, other years there are two and rarely, there will be three eggs.

Bald eagles often use the same nest year after year. This is out of necessity, as the nest is no small project. It is situated in the highest branches of the tallest trees, so it’s difficult to get a perspective on how big it really is.

It’s so far away, so high up, the magnitude is hard to digest.

According to Wikipedia, a bald eagle’s nest can be as much as 13 feet deep, over eight feet wide and weigh one metric ton.

Governor signs budget, touts spending of federal funds on childcare grants Financial uncertainty still swirls as COVID-19 continues to impact tax revenues

Gov. JB Pritzker signed a state budget for fiscal year 2021 last week, but there is no more financial clarity now than there was when lawmakers passed the measure last month.

The $42.9 billion operating budget relies upon borrowing up to $5 billion from the federal government, which would be necessary if Congress does not pass any laws providing extra funding for states amid revenue shortfalls stemming from the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The budget includes repayment of $1.6 billion in borrowing to cover shortfalls in the current fiscal year budget due to the pandemic.

According to the May report of the Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability, or CoGFA, the revenue estimates for the upcoming fiscal year beginning July 1 are $37.6 billion if a graduated income tax constitutional amendment passes.

That figure drops to $36.4 billion if voters do not approve the change to Illinois’ tax structure.

If voters approve the graduated income tax amendment in November, the rates—which would shift to charge those earning more than $250,000 annually a higher income tax rate—are estimated to generate about $1.2 billion, according to CoGFA. If the public health crisis had not hit, that number would be $286 million higher.

Sales tax estimates were revised downward from March to May by nearly $1.5 billion, to $7.5 billion total for fiscal year 2021.

In a press release, the governor’s office emphasized that the spending plan “maintains funding for critical programs, such as education, health care and human services.”

Funding will remain level from the current year for K-12 education, community colleges and public universities.

“The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the enormous role government plays in keeping communities safe and providing the tools people need to build better lives,” Pritzker said in a statement.

“While the pandemic has had a devastating impact on our state revenues, investing in our people will allow the state to rebound and recover from this pandemic as we safely re-open. I will continue to advocate for a national program to support state and local governments to make up the difference in the revenues that fund vital services like hospitals and salaries for teachers and first responders.”

According to the governor’s office, more than $5 billion in federal aid—including funding from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security, or CARES, Act— will be directed to public health, social services, small businesses, local governments and households, including funding earmarked for communities disproportionately impacted by COVID-19.

That includes $270 million in CARES Act funding to supporting child care providers, the governor said at an event in Moline Wednesday.

“And here’s the best part,” Pritzker said at the event. “Because there’s no blueprint for this kind of program, we’re asking providers to tell us how to design the approach that best helps them reopen safely with smaller group sizes, without imposing large tuition increases on families.”

Illinois’ Coronavirus Urgent Remediation Emergency, or CURE, Fund distributes CARES Act dol-

lars, including Business Interruption Grants specifically designed to support businesses that endure lost revenue due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, in partnership with the Illinois Department of Human Services, is charged with developing the grant program for licensed childcare providers.

The Child Care Restoration Grants will be administered by the Illinois Network of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies, or INCCRRA.

An “Intent to Apply” survey also has been launched to gather information for the development of the grants program, and money is to be released in July. Providers are asked to respond to the survey by 5 p.m. June 19.

Other CARES Act disbursements from the CURE Fund and Local CURE Fund for local governments include: $636 million for small business/child care centers assistance; $458 million for household and community support programs; $830 million for health care

providers for pandemic-related stability payments; $250 million to local governments for reimbursements of COVID-19 related costs; and $1.5 billion for state agency COVID-19 related expenses.

The governor’s office also said the budget includes “reductions of operations appropriations of $200 million and another $140 million in transportation funds at the Department of Transportation from the governor’s introduced levels.”

Some of those savings is the result of “a continued partial hiring freeze and restricted operations expenditures,” according to the office.

Seal of Biliteracy earned by 38 Fenton students

The Illinois State Seal of Biliteracy program recognizes high school graduates who have attained a high level of proficiency in English and one or more other languages. This year, Fenton Community High School District 100 is proud to recognize 38 seniors who earned the Seal of Biliteracy upon graduation.

To earn the Seal of Biliteracy, each student must demonstrate proficiency in English and another language on a state-approved language assessment. This year, students took part in Spanish, French, Russian, or Polish.

Additionally, Fenton honors 16 students who qualified for the Commendation toward Biliteracy, which recognizes students who are approaching the criteria for Biliteracy.

The Seal of Biliteracy is displayed on a student’s diploma and transcripts for future educational institutions and employers.

Lawsuit: Reproductive Health Act’s insurance mandate violates religious freedoms

Insurance provisions of Illinois’ reproductive health care law violates residents’ religious freedoms, a coalition of Baptist churches and two state businesses allege in a circuit court lawsuit filed June 10.

The Reproductive Health Act, signed into law by Gov. JB Pritzker almost one year ago, overhauled Illinois’ health care law. It enshrines access to pregnancy care, contraception, birth control, abortion procedures and other related benefits as a fundamental right, meaning no level of government in the state can infringe upon a person’s access to those services.

In its lawsuit, the Thomas More Society, a Chicago law firm that focuses on defending religious rights, took issue with the statute’s insurance mandate—that private insurance companies regulated by Illinois must cover abortions if they also cover pregnancy-related benefits.

By enforcing that provision, the state Department of Insurance has “refused to protect [Illinoisans’] sincerely-held religious beliefs,” according to a news release.

“Radical partisans have forced employers of faith in Illinois into a terrible choice: either pay for the intentional termination of unborn children, or leave your employees’ families and your own without health insurance,” the law firm’s vice president and senior counsel Peter Breen said in a statement.

company Rock River Cartage Inc., in Whiteside County, are asking a judge to rule the Reproductive Health Act “unlawful, invalid, unenforceable, null and void,” according to the filing. They also want to be reimbursed for the cost of filing the case and attorney fees.

Those groups adhered with the law since Pritzker signed it and it became immediately effective on June 12, 2019.

But, their attorney wrote, they did so “against their will” given the Reproductive Health Act “creates government-imposed coercive pressure on (the parties) to change or violate their religious beliefs.”

On Oct. 21, 2019, the Thomas More Society filed a complaint with the U.S. Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights challenging the same aspect of Illinois’ reproductive health care law.

At the time, the state chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union pointed out that Illinois allows those who provide health insurance and have a religious objection to abortion procedures to opt out of that insurance mandate.

That avenue exists in the Health Care Right of Conscience Act, which specifies a “health care payer” cannot be discriminated against as long as its objections of conscience are documented in any of its governing documents.

A spokesperson representing the law firm said the federal government has not responded to the Thomas More Society’s complaint.

The current lawsuit is pending in Sangamon County’s circuit court.

St. Pius X presents 4 x 4 Award to six students The St. Pius X Athletic Association held its first Virtual Athletic Awards Ceremony on May 19. The ceremony was broadcast on both Facebook and YouTube Live.

During the ceremony, six members of St. Pius X School’s Class of 2020 received the 4 x 4 Award. That award is presented to student-athletes (at the end of their eighthgrade year) who participated in all four sports offered at the school (cross country, volleyball, basketball and track and field) for all four years of athletic eligibility. Each of the recipients received an individual plaque. They will also be recognized on a

Online pre-registration may save time at driver facility

Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White announced that his office has launched an online driver’s license and ID card preregistration application program to reduce the processing time of transactions at Driver Services facilities. It is a proactive approach that will save customers time during their facility visit.

Customers may go to www.cyberdriveillinois.com to access the preregistration application for driver’s licenses and ID cards and input specific information regarding their upcoming transaction.

As a result, once the customer visits a Driver Services facility, the clerk will not have to enter all of the data like a change of address or a change of height and weight into the electronic application form because the customer has already updated the information.

This will improve the efficiency of these transactions.

“This is a forward-thinking program using technology to reduce wait times at the counter and speed up transactions at Driver Services facilities,” said White. “The program is easy to use and can be accessed on a computer, iPad or smartphone.”

With preregistration, customers will be prompted to: • Choose a license type (REAL ID or standard driver’s license/ID card); • Choose an application type (renewal or corrected); • Input designations (organ donor or veteran); • Choose any corrections to be

made to the information on file (examples: address, date of birth, eye color, gender, hair color, height, name, Social Security number or weight); • Choose the type of required documentation and enter data from those documents (i.e., certified birth certificate for a REAL ID); • Print receipt with barcode, which should be brought to the facility.

Customers using the preregistration application must still bring all of the required paperwork to the Driver Services facility for verification.

In addition, they are encouraged to bring the printed preregistration receipt to the facility for the clerk to scan the barcode. However, if the customer does not bring in the receipt, the clerk can enter the customer’s driver’s license/ID card number to access the preregistration application information.

To qualify for the preregistration application process, a customer must have an Illinois driver’s license/ID card that is not suspended, canceled or revoked and has not been expired for more than one year.

As a reminder, Driver Services facilities statewide are open to serve only new drivers, customers with expired driver’s licenses/ID cards and vehicle transactions through July 31.

White also reiterated to the public that expiration dates for driver’s licenses/ID cards and vehicle registration stickers have been extended until Oct. 1, 2020, so customers do not need to rush into a facility.

The Willowbrook High School Athletic Booster Club wasn’t able to hold its usual senior athletic banquet this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The booster club conducted its 61st annual senior athletic banquet virtually last month. Willowbrook’s honored student-athletes from its Class of 2020 included Everett Stubblefield (right), who is pictured with Booster Club President Ed Dowling (left). Stubblefield, a standout in basketball and football, was one of six members of the Class of 2020 to receive an Athletic Booster Club Scholarship of $1,000. Additionally, Stubblefield and Sam Tumilty were both named as this year’s recipients of the John A. Fischer Most Valuable Male Athlete Award. In the fall of 2019, Stubblefield helped Willowbrook’s football team to a berth in the IHSA Class 7A state semifinals. In the winter season of 2019-20, Stubblefield averaged a team-leading 21.2 points per game for the Warriors’ boys basketball squad. He scored 699 points during the 33-game campaign to set a new program record for points in a season. Stubblefield finished his Willowbrook career as the varsity program’s all-time leading scorer with 1,430 points. Stubblefield will continue his academic and athletic pursuits at Lake Land College in Mattoon, Illinois. He will play for the Lakers’ men’s basketball team.
