Junior high student charged with threatening school DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin and Addison Director of Police Bill Hayden announced last week that a male Indian Trail Junior High School student had been charged with leaving a threatening voice mail message at the school. The juvenile appeared at a detention hearing, where Judge Robert Anderson ordered the juvenile be released to the custody of his parents on home detention. On May 10, 2019, Addison police officers were dispatched to the school in response to an alleged threatening phone call the school received in the Dean’s office. In the profanity-laced phone call, the caller threatened to “blow up the school.” An investigation into the matter led Addison police officers to the juvenile as the person who allegedly made the phone call. He was taken into custody Sunday, May 12, without incident. “School safety continues to be a top priority of my administration,” Berlin said. “As I have said far too many times in the past, students have got to learn that any threatening message directed at a school is not a joke. Let me be perfectly clear, once we identify the source of any threat, charges will be filed accordingly. “I would like to thank the Addison Police Department for their work in quickly identifying the juvenile in this case. I would also like to thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Adam Frahm and Lynn Cavallo for their efforts on this case.” “All students and staff deserve to have safe schools in which to learn and work,” Hayden said. “Any ac-

tion that threatens their safety will be tion.” thoroughly investigated by my office The juvenile has been charged with and when appropriate, referred to the one count of False Report of a Threat State’s Attorney’s Office for prosecu- to a School, a Class 4 Felony and one
