Nine reputed gang members charged with weapons, drug offenses DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin, ATF Assistant Special Agent in Charge Bennie Mims, DEA Special Agent in Charge Robert J. Bell and Addison Chief of Police Bill Hayden announced last week that bond had been set for eight of nine members of the La Raza street gang for alleged illegal drug and weapons offenses. The other defendant, a juvenile, was released to parental custody. All nine defendants were taken into custody on Friday, Feb. 28, with the adults appearing in bond court later that afternoon and Saturday morning. The juvenile appeared at his detention hearing Monday, March 2. The arrests are the culmination of a multi-agency effort begun last fall conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, the DEA, the Addison Police Department and the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office. Charged in the operation are: • Eli G. Resendez (aka: Balooga), 33, of 105 Euclid Avenue, Bloomingdale; • Samuel Resendez (aka: Mini), 29, of 105 Euclid Avenue, Bloomingdale; • Missael Resendez (aka: Twin), 23, of 105 Euclid Avenue, Bloomingdale; • Ricardo Favela (aka: Joker), 41, of 215 W. Roosevelt Road, Bensenville; • Christopher J. Hernandez (aka: Knuckles), 24, of 523 N. Neva Avenue, Addison; • Nikko DePasquale, 26, of 109 S. Iowa Avenue, Addison; • Armando Carrasco Jr. (aka: Junior), 18, of 548 N. Highview Ave-

nue, Addison; • Ryan Villanueva, 22, of 521 Green Oaks Court S., Addison. The remaining juvenile defendant, who was released to parental custody, is next scheduled to appear in court on March 16 in front of Judge Brian Jacobs. On Friday, Feb. 28 at 6 a.m., officials from the four agencies, working in teams, began their oper-

ations in locating and apprehending the above-named defendants. By 7 a.m., the first of the defendants was located and arrested. Throughout the morning authorities continued their search. By 12 noon, the final defendant, Favela was located and arrested. In total, the State filed 14 Felony drugs and weapons charges and six Misdemeanor charges. “Gang activity continues to be a

problem throughout the region, but with coordinated efforts between multiple law enforcement agencies such as this, we will continue making progress in ridding our communities of dangerous individuals as alleged in this case” Berlin said. “I would like to thank the Addison Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms for their outstanding work and count-

less hours the past several months. Their professionalism and dedication to the safety and well-being of the residents of DuPage County is evident by the amount of time and resources dedicated to this operation.” Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendants’ guilt.
