DuPage Regional Office of Education awarded $3.9 million grant

The DuPage Regional Office of Education (ROE) has been awarded a five-year, $3.9 million Education Innovation and Research (EIR) Grant by the U.S. Department of Education. This award also includes matching grants from the Steans Family Foundation and the Tracy Family Foundation. “Through distributed leadership practices and an intentional focus on instructional improvements, the project will support principals in engaging teachers which will lead to continuous improvement in student outcomes, particularly in high-need schools,” said Dr. Darlene Ruscitti, regional superintendent of DuPage County Schools. The voluntary program is set to begin in October, 2018 and schools will be required to meet set criteria to participate. Entitled Partners To Lead (PTL), the program capitalizes on existing school structures. Principals and staff will receive coaching supports and a comprehensive system of processes, protocols and routines that make existing structures more effective in improving teaching and learning. PTL will engage principals and other school leaders in 56 public schools in rural, suburban and urban settings across the state. It will involve a statewide group of trained professionals from Regional Offices of Education: Illinois State University, Loyola University-Chicago, North Central College, Western Illinois University and the National SAM Innovation Project (NSIP). External evaluation of the project will be conducted through the American Institutes for Research (AIR). Upon completion of the project, the ROEs will sustain the work by collaborating with their districts and local universities. The DuPage ROE also participates as a partner in two U.S. Department of Education-funded grants administered by CSEP: a $4.6 million fiveyear School Leadership Program grant and a $12.5 million three-year Supporting Effective Educator Development grant.

Blame it on the paint

Once the members of the Girls on the Run Club at Army Trail School had their hands covered in paint, well, might as well clap hands and see how much of a mess can be made – without getting into trouble! The girls made thank-you cards for Addison’s first responders.
