Addison Trail High School alum receives upgraded gold medal Alexa Knierim, member of ATHS class of 2009, and her skate partner Brandon Frazier take part in the Championship Pairs Free Skate competition at the 2023 TOYOTA U.S. Figure Skating Championships in January of 2023, at SAP Center in San Jose, Calif. The pair won the gold medal. In February 2022, Knierim (class of 2009) earned a silver medal with Team USA in the figure skating team event during the Beijing
2022 Olympic Winter Games. That U.S. Olympic figure skating team – which included Knierim and Frazier – will now be upgraded to gold medals after Russian skater Kamila Valieva, who initially won the gold medal, was disqualified over a positive test for a banned heart medicine. Knierim also won a bronze medal in the figure skating team event during the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games.

digital, making the process easier for village staff and, more importantly, for residents, according to Mike Crandall, Community Development director. “These improvements will increase productivity, allowing us to review applications and plans much faster,” he said. “It cuts down on paper, which is good for the environment. It’s transparent, because residents and developers can see where we are in the process every step of the way. And it will allow us to provide better customer service.” Partnering with CityView, the Village now requires residents to create an account through an online portal. Here they can apply for building per-
mits; upload all documents, including architectural plans and plats of survey; schedule inspections; track required revisions and more. “All operations are moving to digital, whether it’s a resident applying for a permit for a fence, all the way up to a developer with a huge project,” Crandall said. “Anyone involved in the project can access all the information from one place, and not have to track down paper files.” As much as 60 percent of time can be saved on some projects, from submitting an application to final approval, he said. Other efficiencies now available at the Community Development Department include meeting spac-
es with monitors, where groups can discuss and work together on digital files. The Building, Engineering and Code Enforcement divisions are located together, with their own “huddle” rooms where employees can collaborate. A separate meeting area is available for residents who need assistance with a staff person. Employees who greet staff at the Community Development counter now have workstations facing the entrance and are ready and willing to help residents. To apply for a building permit, residents should visit aglc.addison-il.org/CityViewPortal/. For more information, call 630693-7530.
