Investigation continues into shooting at Bloomingdale hotel
Village considers revoking all licenses By Dee Longfellow FOR THE ADDISON INDEPENDENT
The Indian Lakes Hotel in Bloomingdale was the scene of a mass shooting, which left one person dead and several individuals injured early Saturday, Feb. 6. Bloomingdale Public Safety Di-
rector Frank Giammarese told area news outlets that a “couple of different groups” were holding parties in various parts of the hotel and Giammarese believes the shooting occurred when a confrontation took place among the members of those groups. A later report said a “huge” party got out of control after two different groups who rented rooms at the hotel wound up with as many as 200 people spanning two floors. Police detectives said they believed the group was planning to film a rap video.
When officers arrived on the scene, several gunshot victims were discovered. A later report indicated that as many as six people had been struck by bullets, but the number was not confirmed at press time. According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, a resident of Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood named James McGill Jr. was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. Mr. McGill is the only reported fatality connected with the incident.
Hotel management is holding its own internal investigation into the shooting and is fully cooperating with law enforcement and the Village of Bloomingdale. The incident caused the hotel’s license to be suspended, forcing its closure for at least ten days. The Village Board was expected to review the matter at the Board meeting scheduled for Monday, Feb. 15. Village President Franco Coladipietro told the Daily Herald he was considering the revocation of all the
hotel’s licenses, an action that could lead to the hotel’s closure. Bloomingdale police reported this was not the first time they had investigated an incident at Indian Lakes and not the first time the hotel had been given a violation. Coladipietro and other members of the Village Council had been concerned about the security at the hotel over the past few years. Anyone with more information about the Indian Lakes Hotel incident is asked to call the Bloomingdale police at 630-529-9868.
