SPRINGFIELD — Noting some hard numbers from November, Illinois manufacturers say they’re watching Springfield for decisions on taxes and spending as they keep battling in a worldwide marketplace.

While Illinois gained a few jobs in November, they weren’t in manufacturing.

Although the state added about 400 jobs in November, the unemployment rate rose 0.3 percentage points to 5.7 percent, according to the Illinois Department of Employment Security. That compares to a national rate of 5.0 percent for the same period.

Jeff Mays, director of IDES, said the increase in the unemployment rate was attributable to more people entering the labor force to look for work.

And while the department noted all nonfarm employment was up year-to-year with a job gain of about 35,700, manufacturing jobs continued to lag.

Manufacturing showed a year-to-year job loss of about 12,800 jobs.

“Illinois’ average job growth since the employment recovery began in January 2010 remains below the national average, and employment will not recover from the 20072009 recession until January 2017,” according to IDES analysts.

“The manufacturing and mining industries continue to hemorrhage middle class jobs, while our neighboring states continue to grow, said Jim Schultz, director of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.

“We need to significantly reform our state’s business climate if we want to reverse the flow of manufacturing jobs out of Illinois and

start growing again,” Schultz said.

While Illinois manufacturers certainly compete with other Midwestern makers, they also compete with manufacturers in countries including Mexico and China, he said.

The slow-growing economy also means small- and medium-sized manufacturers that survived The Great Recession are hesitant to add jobs unless they know demand will likely sustain those positions, said Kim Maisch, Illinois director for the National Federation of Independent Business.

“It’s not that things are horrible, but many small business owners are very afraid to put on jobs they may not need.

They don’t want to get caught like that again after they’ve seen so many fellow business owners go out of business,” Maisch said.

Manufacturers concerns about the economy may be well founded.

“Measures of consumer attitudes and sentiment have weakened in recent months,” the state’s Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability, noted in its November report.

There’s some fear the nation’s manufacturing sector is already in recession and, “in Illinois, many face the prospects of higher property taxes as well as the prospect that any state budget solution may necessitate higher state income taxes, while in Cook County they will face a sharp increase in sales and a myriad of other taxes,” the commission reported.

A.G. Madigan says fantasy sports gaming illegal; however, pending legislation could change that

SPRINGFIELD — Residents of Illinois who play fantasy sports contests on sites including FanDuel and DraftKings might want to think twice before they play again.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan issued an opinion Wednesday in which she says the contests on such sites constitute illegal gambling under Illinois law as it now stands.

Further, she provided lawyers for both sites copies of her opinion and let them know her office expects gaming sites to amend their terms of use to include Illinois as one of the states whose residents are not eligible to participate.

Attempts to reach those companies’ lawyers late Wednesday afternoon were not successful.

Although Madigan examines several questions in her opinion, she also says the fantasy sites stance that their contests are matters of skill, and not

chance, aren’t terribly relevant in Illinois because the state’s criminal code “prohibits the playing of both ‘games of chance or skill for money.’”

That doesn’t mean Illinoisans will forever be forbidden from indulging in the games.

Madigan wrote that Illinoisan residents should be considered ineligible “unless and until the Illinois General Assembly passes legislation specifically exempting daily fantasy sports contests.”

Rep. Mike Zalewski, D-Riverside, has just such legislation pending in House Bill 4323, the Fantasy Contests Act. State Sen. Kwame Raoul, D-Chicago, is sponsoring the legislation in the Senate as Senate Bill 2193.

Zalewski on Wednesday said Madigan’s opinion provides resolution to a lack of clarity that he and other legislators have recognized.

“It’s clear from my perspective that what we’re to do in the Generally Assembly (is) to reconcile our law to make sure

that players are protected with strong consumer protections but also allow them to play this popular game in Illinois,” Zalewski said.

Zalewski noted the attorney general referenced his bill in her opinion, which she sent to the chairman and vice chairman of the House Judiciary Committee for criminal law.

“It’s a very easy change to the law that we can make with a couple strokes of the pen,” Zalewski said. “I’m going to make it my goal to try do that in the spring session, and we’re going to go from there.”

Zalewski has said the legislation would: Define what what is considered daily fantasy sports in Illinois and ensure that it is not gambling under the state’s criminal laws.

Establish “best practices” for the industry, including limits on how often a person can play, letting the sites check players for child-support liens and

establishing audit standards.

In fantasy sports, participants open a real-money account with the game operators and — for sports such as baseball and basketball — can play daily if they wish. The fantasy teams are composed of actual athletes who are “drafted” for the fantasy match.

Operators such as DraftKings and FanDuel keep a certain amount or “fee” for administering the entire enterprise.

Both the House and Senate versions of the Fantasy Contests Act remain in committee in their respective chambers.

The legislation is expected to get some pushback from gambling opponents, including Illinois Church Action on Alcohol and Addiction Problems.

Anita Bedell, that group’s executive director, has said it opposes the expansion of gambling in the state and considers the act a major expansion.

Illinois residents finding the exits

SPRINGFIELD — The door to Illinois continues to swing outward more often than it does inward.

New data released by the U.S. Census bureau showed that in terms of domestic migration — people moving about within the United States — Illinois saw roughly 105,200 more people leave than arrive.

Even when offset by a gain of more than 37,600 by way of international migration, Illinois still ended up about 67,500 in the negative column.

showed a net population loss of nearly 22,200 people, or about 0.17 percent of its population.

Of the 50 states, Illinois was the top population loser. Other states showing a net loss of population were Connecticut (-3,876); Maine (-928); Mississippi (-1,110); New Mexico, (-458); Vermont, (-725) and West Virginia (-4,623).

In terms of domestic migration, the only state besides Illinois to show a six-figure loss was New York at nearly 158,000. The Empire State, however, showed a net population increase thanks to natural growth and international migration.

Illinois’ immediate neighbors showed smaller losses to domestic migration than did the Prairie State. Wisconsin had the largest loss of the five bordering states with about 15,570. All five of Illinois’ neighbors showed small net gains in population. Those increases were Indiana at 21,800; Iowa at 14,418; Wisconsin at 11,905; Kentucky at 12,475; and Missouri at 19,845.

Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner’s administration on Tuesday said the census data “is another indication that shows Illinois needs to grow its economy and create jobs through the structural reforms outlined by Governor Rauner that include a property tax

freeze, tort reform and workers’ comp reform.”

“Businesses — especially manufacturers — are ignoring Illinois as a place to grow their companies because of the economic climate,” Rauner spokeswoman Catherine Kelly said in an email.

A spokesman for House Speaker Michael Madigan, D-Chicago, said the data from the Census Bureau offered no analysis, and he chose not to offer analysis. A spokeswoman for Senate President John Cullerton, D-Chicago, said she was studying the data. David Yepsen, director of the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute at Southern Illinois University, said Illinois rugged economic condition is certainly one reason it’s losing population, although not the only one. For instance, Yepsen said, people should also remember that trends in domestic migration are running from the Midwest and New England toward the South and the West.

Part of that likely translates to job availability, but parts are also likely attributable to better climates and to retiree movement Yepsen said.

But the business and tax climate in Illinois is volatile, Yepsen said, and while “businesses don’t like taxes, they hate uncertainty.”

Tuesday’s data shows that states posting big gains in total

net migration included Florida at 332,000; Texas at 271,600; California at 103,500; Washington at 68,700 and North Carolina at 63,200.

In terms of growth by percentage of population, oil-rich North Dakota led the nation by adding an estimated 16,890 residents, or roughly 2.3 percent.

Total population growth for the United States was estimated at 2.51 million. The South showed an increase of roughly 1.39 million people, while the West saw an increase of about 865,600. Smaller gains were reported for the Northeast, about 112,600, and for the Midwest, about 145,300.

The data released Tuesday is from the bureau’s annual estimates on population changes, and the latest report takes into account the period from July 1, 2014, to July 1, 2015.

Last year’s December report indicated Illinois lost nearly 10,000 residents from its population from July 1, 2013, to July 1, 2014. Tuesday’s data showed the Census Bureau bringing that number down to about 7,400.

College of DuPage Chairwoman Kathy Hamilton resigns abruptly

After an eventful seven months of reforms and investigations, board Chairwoman Kathy Hamilton announced she will immediately resign from her position at the College of DuPage.

She cited personal reasons in

a letter Sunday addressed to students and faculty.

In it, she says, “It is with sadness … that for personal reasons I am resigning from this board effective immediately. I have enjoyed working together with my fellow trustees to build upon the strengths of COD and address its future needs.”

Vice President of Marketing and Communications Joe Moore told Illinois News Network that the college will have to replace Hamilton in 60 days from her resignation.

Hamilton was part of the driving force behind the Glen Ellynbased college’s reforms after she was elected chairwoman by board vote in April. The board voted to fire then-president Robert Breuder in October for numerous alleged policy violations and nullified his controversial, high-dollar severance package. He has since sued the school, as well as Hamilton and other board members.

Under Hamilton’s watch, the board also voted to close the high-end campus restaurant after it reported millions of dollars in losses.

The college has been under investigation by its accreditation body for possible credithour violations and other financial and administrative shortcomings.

As of Tuesday, Hamilton has not responded to interview requests.

Addison Trail names December recipient of 88’s Best Senior John Scorza honored

ADDISON—John Scorza has been named as Addison Trail’s December recipient of 88’s Best recognition for his academic accomplishments.

Scorza, a senior, was recognized during the Dec. 14 District 88 Board of Education meeting.

By the end of his high school career, Scorza will have taken 11 Advanced Placement (AP)/ college-level courses and 11 Honors courses. He also has earned straight As each year during his time at Addison Trail.

“Scorza found ways to encourage his classmates to participate by asking them questions and helping them build upon and further develop their responses,” said Amy Ferraro, Addison Trail English Department Chair. “His curiosity, willingness to engage in class and witty nature made him a joy to teach and work with.”

Addison Trail English teacher Jim Perusich agreed.

“Scorza has the uncanny ability to shift from a rather intense, focused and diligent goal-seeker to a laidback, amiable young man, who knows when to turn his passion for improvement from ‘on’ to ‘off’

to ‘overdrive,’” Perusich said.

Scorza also participates in many extracurricular activities.

He has played football for three of his four years at Addison Trail and serves as Vice President of the Lettermen Club.

He also is a PE Leader and a Blazer Ambassador and is a member of the National Honor Society, Math Team, Academic Team, Psychology Club, Science Olympiad and Pay It Forward.

Scorza dedicates much of his time to community service as well through various organizations such as Feed My Starving Children, Relay For Life, Park Pride Cleanup Days and Toys for Tots. He also volunteers through his church and is a math tutor.

Addison Trail Head Football Coach and special education teacher Paul Parpet Jr. said Scorza has been a tremendous asset to the football team.

“It’s young men like Scorza whom you don’t want to miss out on the opportunity to coach!” Parpet said. “He is an outstanding individual.”

Gambling and pickpockets: one veteran notes similarities

W

hen I was very young, we were always warned about pickpockets while Christmas shopping with constant reminders to “watch your wallet or purse.” I found it fascinating that a person could learn the skill of taking someone’s money or wristwatch without them knowing it. On TV, there were those who could make it look like a card trick or a backflip.

I say this to make a point against video poker, slot machines, even the endless lottery variations. In truth, they are all like the common pickpocket, who wants your money for his own use. Even if that pickpocket was going to use the stolen money to

buy a gravesite for an indigent war veteran, I would still not be impressed. Some say, “they exploit the poor and call it ‘The Lottery.’” – I agree.

Everyone should learn how to figure simple mathematical odds and probability, as I was taught in grammar school.

Then they might know that “games,” be they paper, verbal or mechanical, always end up making the game player the loser.

Let’s be clear on what exactly a “game of chance” can be.

If two people flip a coin and bet either heads or tails, there is a 50-50 chance of winning.

That sounds good, until someone sneaks a two-headed (or two-tailed) coin into the game.

the lottery gets to flip the coin about 100,000 times to get the coin to be either heads or tails – you can flip it only once to be winner. The odds are poor, but it doesn’t stop thousands of people from playing every week. And worse yet: the Lottery gets to make all the rules.

The lottery never gives you an even break. The lottery never ever loses. Of course, now and then ONE person does win and wins big, but even the size of the prize is pure hype. There are taxes to pay, staggered payments and suddenly, hundreds of newfound “relatives” who arrive at your door.

So who falls into the trap?

Usually it’s the most vulnerable in our society – those who never learned about mathematical odds. Video poker is especially devious as poker connotes a game usually played by people using playing cards, therefore, those who play video poker think they can win because they are so skillful at the card game.

But you’re not playing with cards, you’re playing against a computer and in this day and age, does anyone really think they can win against a computer?

Oh sure, one or two win along the way, just enough to

keep everyone interested and coming back for more. Just remember: the person or persons or organization or government who spent the money to create video poker will ultimately never EVER lose.

There was a good explanation for video poker and the Illinois Lottery in a book called “The Art of the Deal,” in which the author says if gambling doesn’t bother you on moral grounds, then it’s the only business to be in.

But if the lottery is even close to having any class, why is it they can’t pay their winners?

The Unknown Philosopher… ME!

T

o paraphrase Kermit the Frog, it’s not easy being a philosopher.

You become an easy target.

Philosophers don’t produce anything except ideas. Jay Leno made this point by telling us he studied philosophy in college and his plan was to open a small philosophy shop where he would buy and sell ideas. Somehow the business failed and he decided to go into show business. That was a good decision on his part, but it was too late for me, since when I heard Jay’s story I had already fallen into the philosophy trap.

It all started when I entered college “with a skull full of mush” like all students, according to a movie law professor, John Houseman. I initially thought the oil business sounded profitable, so I signed up to major in Geology. The basics sounded promising, but I soon learned that it involved more than just cataloging various minerals. About the same time the term “calculus” popped up as one of the requirements for a Geology degree, and it was at that time that Geology lost much of its glamour.

I then decided to look for a course of study that didn’t require math. And YES, I found it! Philosophy does not require any math, nor does it require answers that can be proven scientifically. I liked that. Philosophy was for me.

I found that Philosophy professors reel you in step by step. First they hit you with Socrates, an historic and courageous character. He taught that truth was more important than life itself. He gets you thinking about concepts like beauty,

good and justice. You could easily skate around these ideas from many angles. I thought Good, I can do that.

Then we met Plato. He is commonly held to be the architect of Western Philosophy and properly so. Plato talked about “forms,” which are external and unchanging. Both things and ideas have forms. T h e closer a thing or an idea relates to the “perfect form,” the better life and the whole of society will be. Hard to understand completely, but interesting.

Then we were introduced to Plato’s student, Aristotle.

We liked Plato and wanted to see what his student thought.

Aristotle taught that things are better understood by studying their purpose, rather than the form they take. The way things or people act is determined by what their purpose is. If they fulfill their purpose, they would be happy and useful. The purpose of man was to find true happiness. Hey, I could certainly equate to that.

At this point we were so deep into philosophy that we couldn’t get out. I suffered through all the philosophers, both medieval and modern and I realized A. N. Whitehead, a 20th century philosopher was right. He showed real insight in his comment “the safest characterization of Western Philosophy is that of a series of footnotes to Plato.”

Oh no! If true, my junior and senior years of college were wasted! The study was a fun ride but not very marketable.

Although I really enjoyed the intellectual aspects of my junior and senior years studying philosophy, it did nothing to help me find a job. You graduate contemplating your future. You search the want ads and notice there are none,

which are looking for a philosopher. So you get a job with the best company that will take a chance on a philosopher. I found one and clung to it for 34 years.

Many years later I was in a conversation with a group of friends, and my adult daughter was with us. The subject of education came up and I had to admit that I had a degree in philosophy.

One of my friends asked, “What can you get with a philosophy degree?”

My daughter quickly answered “34 years with State Farm.” The pain never ends.

While listening to the radio, a caller complained he was a college graduate and couldn’t find a job. The radio commentator asked what was the caller’s degree. The caller answered “philosophy.” The radio commentator replied, “What did you expect?” Oh, the shame.

While there is plenty of local disrespect for philosophers, the issue went viral on a recent nationally-televised Republican debate. The audience gave tumultuous applause when Senator Rubio commented, “This nation needs more welders and less philosophers.”

There is no place to hide.

As a true philosopher, Rodney Dangerfield often complained, “I don’t get no respect.” It’s easy to identify with that comment.

I leave you with a philosophical thought. Mamas, don’t let your babies grow up to be philosophy majors.

IC Catholic Prep boys basketball team making progress Reed stars for Knights in recent conference victory

The IC Catholic Prep boys basketball team was making strides heading into the holiday break.

The Knights closed out a stretch of three recent games against Metro Suburban Conference teams with a win against Wheaton Academy and a loss to Chicago Christian.

In a 57-44 win over Wheaton Academy, the Knights jumped out to a 23-8 lead after the first quarter and led 41-14 at halftime.

“That was our best game of the season,” said IC Catholic Prep coach TJ Tyrrell.

Austin Reed led the Knights with 28 points, including 17 in the first quarter.

“Austin Reed was outstanding in that game,” said Tyrrell.

“The players got each other involved. Everybody was doing something. We had multiple players with two or more assists.”

Will Lyles added 12 points, while Troy Burrows had seven points. Garrett Cheng had eight rebounds.

“Garrett Cheng and Matt Sutton are coming back from football and they both had solid outputs,” said Tyrrell.

“Will Lyles did a great job down low and then Austin was the catalyst for us with 28 points and he also had nine steals.”

The Knights then dropped a 56-53 MSC crossover game

to Chicago Christian. The Knights trailed after the first quarter, but used a 24-16 second quarter to go up 36-29.

Chicago Christian outscored the Knights 14-5 in the third quarter and 13-12 in the fourth quarter.

“Chicago Christian is 9-1,” said Tyrrell. “It was a good game. They are in our subsectional so there are playoff seeding implications from this game. We played a good half of basketball. Their size hurt us in the post. We struggled rebounding. We did a nice job running our offense and taking advantage of opportunities early on. We played a good game the night before against Wheaton Academy and we saw some fatigue set in on some guys, but overall it was a good effort.”

Reed had 13 points, while Lyles finished with 10. Sutton had eight points. Reed hit three 3-pointers in the game.

IC Catholic Prep dropped to 5-4 with the loss.

“Right now the most encouraging thing is we are seeing multiple players involved,” said Tyrrell earlier last week.

“Our bench is engaged from the start.”

Earlier, IC Catholic Prep lost a MSC West game to Fenton.

“We struggled against Fenton,” said Tyrrell. “We did not come in focused and might have overlooked Fenton a little bit. The good thing is we came back from that very disappointing loss and played well and won against Wheaton Academy and were up 41-14 at halftime against a very good team.

We’re up and down right now.

We’re still trying to find our rhythm and get into a flow. I’m very optimistic after the games against Wheaton Academy and Chicago Christian. There were a lot of positives to take away from those two games. It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish the season. It’s a process.

We’re going to keep working on areas we need to improve on. We made some mental mistakes against Chicago Christian where we turned the ball over in some untimely spots down the stretch. But these all are learning and teachable moments. Our mental game is much stronger and once we have some leader emerge, we will be in very good shape.”

The Knights were concluding play earlier this week in their co-hosted IC Catholic Prep-Westmont tournament.

Willowbrook girls basketball team looking for consistency Spada scores 20 points in recent game against Morton

Willowbrook girls basketball coach Terry Harrell described his team as “up and down” heading into the holiday break.

The Warriors sported a 4-8 overall record and 2-4 mark in West Suburban Conference Gold Division play prior to playing in the Wheaton North tournament.

“We’ve lost some relatively close games,” said Harrell.

“We’re playing good enough to get beat sometimes. We are scoring well and we’ve had stretches where we play good defense. But we have lapses where we are inefficient for four- or five-minute stretches where we throw the ball away and we fall behind. Typically we’ll come back from that but not all the way.”

In action prior to the holiday break, the Warriors scored a 53-37 WSC Gold win over District 88 neighbor Addison Trail.

Willowbrook led 14-8 after the first quarter and 23-21 at halftime. The Warriors used a 15-5 third quarter to pull away.

Kaylin Konrath led the Warriors with 18 points (6-for-8

shooting). She also had eight rebounds. Danielle Velasquez added 10 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Josie Zabran had nine points and seven rebounds, while Jocelyn Trausch had seven points, six rebounds and three assists. Alyssa Spada also had seven points. Willowbrook out rebounded Addison Trail 40-30 and held a 16-2 edge in second-chance points.

In a 73-68 WSC Gold loss to Hinsdale South, Willowbrook trailed 24-14 after the first quarter but led 33-31 at halftime. Hinsdale South outscored Willowbrook 19-8 in the third quarter. Willowbrook outscored Hinsdale South 27-23 in the fourth quarter.

Velasquez had 16 points and five assists. Konrath also had 16 points (4-for-4 free throws) and six rebounds. Zabran had 13 points and six rebounds, while Spada had 12 points and 11 rebounds. Willowbrook shot .727 from the free-throw line in a game that featured five lead changes and three ties.

“We scored really well against Hinsdale South,” said Harrell. “They were hot from the 3-point line. They shot 50 percent from the 3-point line and 42 percent from the field. It was one of those games where they got hot and being hot was good enough. They beat us in two key stats, shooting

percentage and the score. We took 20 more shots than they did. They hit their shots. We’ve played some exciting games but haven’t been able to close them out. We’re improving on a regular basis, but we have to play a complete game and not make mistakes in these stretches. We’re getting better. Our shooting percentage is up, our free-throw percentage is up and our turnovers are down. We just haven’t been able to turn that into a winning streak.”

Willowbrook also dropped a 48-46 WSC Gold game to Morton. The Warriors were stung by 28 turnovers. Morton scored 22 points off turnovers and held an 18-8 advantage on secondchance points.

Spada led the Warriors with 20 points (2 three-pointers; 4-for-4 free throws), five rebounds and five steals. Velasquez added 11 points (8-for-11 free throws) and five rebounds.

Milena Sogura had six points.

Harrell said the team has received strong play, in particular, of late from Velasquez, Konrath and junior Grace Chantos.

“Danielle has played extremely well for us,” said Harrell. “She played a lot for us as a sophomore and then tore her ACL and was out the second half of the season. She tore her ACL again just before the season last year. This is the first time she’s played in more than a year-and-a-half. She’s a

floor leader who handles the ball well.”

Harrell noted Konrath was averaging 17 points per game in conference contests prior to the Morton game.

“Kaylin has helped us, particularly in the conference games,” the coach said. “Teams are double- and triple-teaming Josie and Kaylin plays the other post and has taken advantage of that opportunity.”

Chantos is helping out the Warriors in ways other than points per game. “Grace is averaging 3.5 assists per game,” said Harrell. “She doesn’t take a lot of shots, but she finds her teammates. We start four seniors and Grace. She’s been doing a nice job.”

Warriors recently achieved seasonhigh point total

plus several returning gymnasts not being part of the program due to moving away or early graduation.

“We have 16 girls this year and 14 have never done gymnastics before,” she said. “It’s a total rebuilding year. Fourteen of the girls are completely new to the sport.”

However, Nocek is thrilled with the girls she does have on the team. “They try really hard and they are great kids,”

she said. “We are trying to top our scores from meet to meet and not worry about winning and losing. We only have three girls on the freshman team and we’ve had to move some kids from the junior-varsity team up to the varsity. It’s a learning year.”

Nocek told the team it would get treated to pizza if it broke a certain point barrier. That occurred recently in a meet against Hinsdale South.

“They sure did it,” she said.

“We try and keep it interesting in different ways. It helps keep the team moving forward.”

The team is led by the likes of seniors Katherine Gibson and Jackie Bliss. “They are great leaders,” said Nocek. “They are really good kids and both are doing a great job leading this group. They keep things moving and they help each other every day.”

Willowbrook hosts senior night on Jan. 7 against Morton.

“Every meet the girls are doing something new,” said Nocek.

“They are doing a new skill or multiple skills on events. Our morale is staying up. The girls are staying focused and they are happy. A lot of these girls wish they had done gymnastics when they were little. We have three juniors and two seniors who have never done gymnastics before and decided to try it late in the game.

They said they wished they would have started this a long time ago.”

West Suburban S ymphony presents fusion2

HINSDALE -- Musicians from the West Suburban Symphony present “fusion2,” a club-style show, on Saturday, January 16 at 7:30 p.m. at The Community House, 415 W. 8th St., Hinsdale.

Five small groups of classically trained musicians will perform popular music in a casual setting, with West Suburban Symphony music director Peter Lipari serving as master of ceremonies.

The show features rock, bluegrass, classic jazz, blues, and tango music by string, brass, keyboard and percussion players, and a vocal medley of hits from Les Miserables, performed in costume with choreography. Performers include five of the Symphony’s principal players and more than 20 additional musicians, primarily from the Symphony and its chorus.

The fusion2 production is the second of its kind; the first such show, held in January 2014, sold out and advance ticket purchases are recommended. Tickets are $15 for general admission for all ages.
