Fire on Sunday evening leaves home uninhabitable By Dee Longfellow FOR THE ADDISON INDEPENDENT

According to Addison Fire Protection District Chief Scott Walker, smoke and fire were visible as firefighters pulled up to a two-story home, which was on fire on the 200 block of So. Iowa Ave. on Sunday, Oct. 25 at about 7 p.m. No one was injured in the fire. There were two occupants in the home at the time of the incident, but they were able to escape safely, along with their pet dog, before firefighters arrived. The fire was brought under control in about 10 minutes, Walker said. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but reportedly began in the home’s utility room. At this time, the fire is estimated to have caused about $75,000 in damage, according to fire officials, and the home is uninhabitable. Firefighters remained on scene for more than an hour performing salvage operations and safety checks for hot spots.

Trick-or-treat hours are Saturday, Oct. 31 from 3 to 7 p.m.

As always, participation in trickor-treating is voluntary, and parents may decide what they feel is best for their children. Residents who wish to participate are encouraged to turn on porch lights as a sign they welcome trick-or-treaters.

Properly masked and social distanced, voters have been pouring into local area early-voting sites like this one, which had a line out the door on Saturday, Oct. 24. The County has issued a report saying 25% of registered voters in DuPage have already voted. The County Clerk’s office had to increase the number of Early Voting sites by 50 percent since the Primary.
