Educator, writer Dr. Eve L. Ewing to appear March 1
The Addison Public Library is joining 11 area libraries to host an online Fireside Chat with Dr. Eve L. Ewing on Monday, March 1 at 6 p.m., where she will share her perspectives on her work as a sociologist of education and the state of the world in 2021. This live event will be moderated by WBEZ’s award-winning journalist Natalie Moore. Head of Adult Services Mike Monahan said he is excited to partner with other local libraries to bring such a big-name writer to the Addison community. “Eve Ewing is an inspiring writer and educator with a unique perspective,” said Monahan. “I’m excited to bring this virtual event to Addison residents so we can hear her thoughts on 2020 and 2021 and expand our horizons.” More about Dr. Ewing Dr. Ewing is an award-winning author and assistant professor at the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration, where her work focuses on racism, social inequality, and urban policy, and the impact of these forces on American public schools and the lives of young people. Dr. Ewing’s written works include Electric Arches, a poetry collection that was named one of the year’s best books by NPR and the Chicago Tribune, Marvel Comics Champions and Ironheart series, and
Ghosts in the Schoolyard: Racism and School Closings on Chicago’s South Side. Her first book for young readers, Maya and the Robot, will be published in summer of this year. Among many others, Dr. Ewing has been awarded the 2019 O.L. Davis Jr. Outstanding Book Award (American Association for Teaching and Curriculum), the 2020 Public Humanities Award (Illinois Humanities) and the 2020 Black Excellence Award (African American Arts Alliance). These Princesses reign

This Princesses father-daughter group recently helped pack meal boxes at the Feed My Starving Children location in Schaumburg. The Princesses and their family members (nearly 80 volunteers with Princess affiliation) worked in two shifts adhering to strict COVID-19 protocols. The second shift alone packed 79 boxes, which provides just over 17,000 meals, or enough to feed 46 children three meals a day for more than a year.
