South Devon College has a range of campus locations throughout Torbay and South Devon, each providing opportunities for more students to access the great facilities and teaching we offer.
The Newton Abbot campus covers the Automotive Skills Centre at Bradley Lane, and Brunel Skills Centre. It provides a fantastic learning environment, with industry-standard equipment and expert teachers.
Our Centre for Health and Care Professions is located close to Torbay Hospital and all major bus routes, providing a range of facilities dedicated to training in health, care, and professional sectors.
Our inspirational Paignton campus provides the very best learning environment, featuring state-of-theart equipment and facilities in a range of locations.
Based on the banks of the River Dart, South Devon College Marine Academy is a centre of excellence with access to the water for marine training and education both on and offshore.
Our purpose-built facility opened in 2019 and is nationally significant. The Centre provides individuals with the skills that employers need to support their growth in a range of important local hi-tech businesses such as: electronics, lasers, fibre, satellite and communications, aerospace, marine, medical, and big data analytics.
The Centre houses facilities including a cinema screening suite with 7.1 surround sound, large 4k touchscreen displays, manufacturing workshops, computer and Mac suites, sound recording booths, a photography studio and an Esports gaming suite.
The new Marine Academy opened in 2022 and is based on a historic former boat building yard, within Premier Marinas’ multi-million pound development. We are an approved training centre for the Royal Yachting Association (RYA), members of British Marine and strategic partner of Maritime UK South West, as well as partnering with the University of Plymouth on our Higher Education courses.
The College works in partnership with Princess Yachts to deliver a range of apprenticeship opportunities. The partnership has also provided a dedicated workshop that houses one of Princess’ V40 hulls, allowing apprentices to learn in the classroom using real-world products, techniques and application of theory.

The Centre acts as a central sports hub for College students as well as being designed with a strong emphasis on local community.
Comprising a latest generation all weather 3G pitch, changing rooms, community room, teaching space and Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), the Centre is operated by 3d Leisure in partnership with the College.
The Centre is the official home to the College’s resident Torquay United Football Academy. The ever-growing academy hosts its own fixtures for teams all across the South West region, helping to nurture the next generation of emerging talent.
Our Hair, Beauty and Barbering courses are all based within our industry-standard salons. As part of these courses, students get to work in the commercially operated salons with real, paying clients to develop the relationship building and customer service skills that are essential in this industry.
Horizons Dining is a licensed restaurant within the College where our students develop their skills in both professional cookery and food and beverage service. It’s always popular with guests and, together with our fully equipped training kitchens, provides a fantastic environment, and a real working experience, for students in catering and hospitality.
South Devon University Centre is based on our Paignton campus and is the home of our higher and degree apprenticeships, as well as offering foundation degrees and full honours top-up degrees.
A key feature of our higher education courses is the exceptional support we provide for our students. We have an experienced team who offer a range of services and provide regular one-to-one contact time with your personal tutor, ensuring you have every opportunity to excel on your course.

We deliver many of our courses in partnership with the University of Plymouth, with whom we share an incredibly strong relationship. At South Devon College, our priority is to help you achieve your goals and begin a successful career. We have a dedicated team of professional, qualified staff, who can help with your individual needs to give you the best possible experience.
We work closely with over 1000 local and national employers, including Pennon, LiveWest Homes, the NHS, Spirent, Casting Support Solutions, and The Savoy. This ensures that you’ll develop sector specific and transferable skills for employment, through learning in simulated work environments, industry placements with employers, or enterprise and community projects.
The Safeguarding and Wellbeing Team within the College can offer emotional and pastoral support. They can help you achieve your potential, stay on course, and develop personal and social skills in preparation for employment or further education. We work hard to support mental health, personal welfare and wellbeing, and can put you in contact with other supporting agencies if you need them.
Our dedicated SEND team can help with tailored learning plans if you have a learning difficulty or sensory impairment that has been identified. This can include: dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD, Autism, or dyscalculia, or you have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), have been in special education, or are worried that you’re not finding some learning as easy as you expected. We also have The Lodge, a dedicated space for students who have been diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC).
Apprentices do not qualify for free travel, however, we offer the South Devon College Travel Pass at a heavily discounted price:
SDC Stagecoach Torbay Zone Travel Pass: £450
This pass covers Brixham, Kingswear, Dartmouth, Paignton, Torquay, Totnes, Newton Abbot, Teignmouth and Dawlish.
SDC Stagecoach South West Zone Travel Pass: £690
This pass covers the Torbay Zone plus: South Brent, Ivybridge, Kingsbridge, Plymouth, Chudleigh, Ashburton, Bovey Tracey, Buckfastleigh and Exeter. Ferry Pass: £210
You can add a Dartmouth to Kingswear ferry pass for just an extra £70 per term! This will cover your timetabled college days only.
Our dedicated team are on hand to support you in a number of ways, including:
• Providing you with information on the latest apprenticeship vacancies
• Guiding your employer through the apprenticeship process, including funding guidance
• Supporting you with onboarding onto your new apprenticeship
• Liaising with you, your employer, and your tutor at the start of your new apprenticeship
• Supporting with apprenticeship service queries
• Giving information, advice and guidance in relation to apprentice routes and entry requirements
Apprenticeships are real jobs that include structured training. You will develop real working experience as you study towards a qualification that will boost your career prospects, all whilst getting paid.
Apprenticeships are available in almost every industry and they usually last two years. You’ll be based in the workplace for four days each week with the remaining day spent at the College. You’ll also have a dedicated Partnership Coordinator, who will ensure you gain the relevant skills, knowledge, and behaviours required to complete your apprenticeship.
One of the key things employers look for is work experience which makes an apprenticeship an excellent way of improving your future employability. You will also develop many transferable skills that can be applied across a variety of sectors so you can consider a number of careers upon completion.

Apprenticeships offer excellent progression opportunities, whether you are looking to study further or climb the ranks within the workplace. 90% of apprentices get a job or go into further training after finishing an apprenticeship.
Apprenticeships allow you to earn a salary and take paid holiday.

Apprentices are entitled to the minimum wage for their age if they are both aged 19 and over and have completed the first year of their apprenticeship.

The government states that all young people must stay in education or training until at least their 18th birthday. You have a choice about how to continue your education post-16, which could include an apprenticeship or traineeship.
