Nellie’s Arctic Adventure

A community artist is creating breathtaking outdoor sculptures at Sheffield Park and Garden National Trust with the help of local primary pupils. Sheffield Park has once again commissioned Roy Kelf, of Kelf Kreations, to create the centrepieces of a winter trail that follows the story of Nellie Soames, former owner of Sheffield Park, and one of the first women to venture into the Arctic. Nellie’s Arctic Adventure brings to life the eccentric characters and shimmering ice landscapes Nellie encountered. Kelf enlisted the help of young artists in a series of workshops at Chailey St Peter’s, Newick and Fletching Primary Schools to create the clever constructions using his ingenious technique of repurposing used plastic containers. As well as delighting visitors of all ages, the sculptures - from fishing villages to polar bears - carry an important message of sustainability and the preservation of places of natural beauty and historic interest for future generations. Nellie’s Arctic Adventure runs from 24 January to 27 February at Sheffield Park and Garden National Trust, Uckfield TN22 3QX. Normal garden admission applies. No booking is required.Visit www.nationaltrust.org.uk/sheffield-park-and-garden for more information. Photo credit: © National Trust Images/Oskar Proctor 4
