Parade This Sunday Some Hints Parade basics – right up front: The St. Patrick’s/Evacuation Day Parade – 118 marching units –steps off from Broadway Station on West Broadway promptly at 1 p.m. this Sunday, March 19. And there’ll be many other related events beforehand. by Rick Winterson Perhaps the most impressive fact about the upcoming St. Patrick’s/Evacuation Day Parade is its variety. At the very start of the Parade, you’ll see our City of Boston’s Fire Department, EMT Emergency Services Units, and Police Department, along with State Police units, leading off the march. Watch for the “Cops for Kids with Cancer” trolley and accompanying marchers, staffed by the

Retired Police Officers Association. It’s just one example of how much service is rendered beyond normal duties. And then enjoy the Boston Police Gaelic Column Pipes & Drums - a truly skilled band. And be sure to give them a hand. These are our public servants at their very best. The U.S., Navy gets a bit of a play in this year’s Parade. They’ll be represented by three naval contingents. The USS San Jacinto (CG-56), a guided missile cruiser, will pay her respects to South Boston from the Black Falcon Pier this year, and she’ll send a color guard and marching contingent to the Parade on Sunday. Another contingent from the USS Constitution will also march; Parade viewers will be treated to the USN Band from NewContinued on Page 2
