Southam United went out of the Birmingham FA Saturday Vase at Garden Walk Stadium on Saturday, losing 2-0 to West Midlands (Regional) League Division One leaders Gornal Athletic. On a difficult pitch, goals from Jamie Hunt and Callum Parker, one in each half, ended Saints challenge, although manager Richard Kay felt that his side had done enough to at least earn a draw. “We deserved to take it to penalties on our second half performance” said Kay. “In a game of fine margins, we threw everything, including the kitchen sink, at them trying to get the equaliser, with Gornal getting their second right on fulltime. “A huge team effort with our fighting spirit again evident, but we probably just lacked that sharpness after two weeks without a game.”
