LETTER FROM THE CAPTAIN

Welcome back to Bobby Hancocks Park

The last home game we entertained Marston Saints in the league winning 4-0. We knew going into the game against Marston we would be expected to win. Especially against a team who hadn’t picked up any points in the league so far. We had gone as underdogs against Copsewood the week before to being the favourites. We knew what it’s like to be underdogs so it was important we were professional with our performance. It was important we played with a high tempo and to move the ball quickly. Sometimes when you have lots of the ball and lots of space you take too many touches allowing the opposition to set in their defensive shape. I felt we were professional in our performance, the only criticism was we didn’t score more goals. Last week we played away against Gornal Athletic in the Birmingham Vase. For me, alongside Coventry Copsewood, they were the best side we have played this season. I felt we were unlucky not to take them to penalties with two very good chances near the end of the game. 1-0 down we pushed but unfortunately couldn’t find that equaliser and we got sucker punched right at the death losing 2-0. Obviously the squad were disappointed to be out of the competition but it takes nothing away from how well we have performed over the last 4 to 5 games. Today is another cup competition being the league cup. Without question it’s a cup we want to try and win. We will take one game at a time, starting today against Garsington. Like every game we go in to today’s game, with the right attitude and work ethic off the ball, hopefully then our quality should shine through to get us a positive result. With the positive news this week of Michael Davis becoming CEO of Southam its exciting times for all involved with the club. With all the good things happening behind the scenes it’s also up to us boys on the pitch to continue to do our part to move the club forwards. It’s great to see so many new faces coming down to support us. It doesn’t go unnoticed and we thank you. Enjoy the game.
