Good afternoon and a warm welcome to BHP for Southam United’s final league fixture of the season against traveling side Halse United
Football is far more than just a game. Football is the 90 minutes of freedom from the world around us that so many men, women and children need. Football is the environment that can teach us confidence, resilience, integrity and team work. Football is one of the most simplistic yet complex games on the planet; simple on paper but never the less tactical as chess. Football is everything, to so many people, towns and countries across the globe. Football is you, football is me, football is us. I could spend the rest of this article talking about the recent developments at the club; such as the upstairs progress, the bar build, the new u18’s team, the pending alcohol license, etc, etc. But I have no interest in doing that today. What I’d love to talk about is a legacy. A legacy that we; you, me, the staff and every supporter and contributor to this club, started to build here 18 months ago. We have taken a club on the brink of extinction and given it a fresh breath of life. Not only have we done this, we have done it well and secured a promotion into the National League System. This is something we can all be proud of, that we can all smile about and that we can all stand up and say, “I was a part of that”. I’m proud. Proud to be a part of this club, proud to be a part of the legacy and proud to be welcomed into the club the way you have all welcomed me.
We have all worked incredibly hard over the past season, on and off the pitch, to not only drive the club forward in terms of playing, performance and business, but also to re-instill that community spirit which makes any football club thrive. I am immensely proud of what we are achieving at Southam United FC, and what we are doing within the local community, and we couldn’t do it without the outstanding team we have on and off the pitch, including every one of you in the stands this afternoon. I’ve been asked multiple times over the past 18 months, “why bother with the club?” And that “we will never get anywhere.” I do it because I love football and I love what we are doing at Southam United FC. There’s nothing more to it than that.
HOWAY THE SAINTS!
Mike
