Southam United 3 Yarnton FC 2 Coventry Telegraph Cup

Southam United ended their recent poor run of form when they ran out 3-2 winners at Yarnton FC to move up to fourth place in the Oxfordshire Senior League Premier Division. Leading scorer Jay Lawes set Saints on their way in the 23rd minute with his 11th goal of the season and Melvin Mauritson (pictured) doubled the advantage with ten minutes of the half remaining to give them a comfortable 2-0 half-time lead. Yarnton got one back in the 72nd minute but, just two minutes later, Mauritson struck again with a great run into the box to make it 3-1 for Saints who were looking on their way to a welcome three points. It wasn’t all over, however, as Yarnton scored from a free-kick with five minutes of normal time to go to leave the match poised, but Saints held on to record their first win after four league and cup defeats
