Rules For Facility Use Permits For Town Beaches, Beach Parties, And Gatherings
It is the Town of Southampton’s goal to encourage our residents and taxpayers to enjoy beach access areas as much as possible. However, this use must be controlled in order to ensure that our resources are properly protected. All Town bathing beaches are closed to the public between the hours of 9 PM and 5 AM, from May 15 through September 15, unless a Facility Use Permit or an after-hours Fishing Permit is issued by the Parks & Recreation Department. Other regulations may apply to access roads designated as “Parking by Permit Only” areas.
GUIDELINES FOR FACILITY USE PERMITS ARE AS FOLLOWS:
• Permit will be issued only to Town residents and taxpayers 18 years and older. Proof of residency and age are required.
• Events needing Facility Use Permits at beaches and access roads shall not begin before 6 PM, and shall not last beyond 11 PM.
• Injurious substances, bonfires, fireworks, and glass bottles are prohibited at all times. Alcohol beverages are prohibited except when a permit is issued in writing by the Parks & Recreation Department or Town Board.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:
• TENTS: Other than small sunshade or small 10'x10' portable units, tents are prohibited without a Facility Use Permit from the Parks & Recreation Department and the Southampton Town Fire Marshal. At no time shall tents, large or small, be erected prior to 6 PM, when duly authorized.
• MUSIC: Music, bands, DJs, and amplified sound systems are prohibited. Small portable stereo units are allowed, if volume is maintained at a reasonable level.
• FIRES: Bonfires on the sand are prohibited. Small charcoal or wood fires in a metal container are allowed by Facility Use Permit. Gas grills are also allowed. All charcoal and wood fires must be put out with water and be disposed of properly. Fires are ONLY allowed after 6 PM.
• CLEAN-UP: All litter shall be removed from the beach and disposed of properly. If Town garbage cans at the beach are full, garbage must be removed from the location by the Facility Use Permit holder and disposed of in a proper manner.
• VEHICLES: Unless otherwise permitted in writing by the Parks & Recreation Department, all vehicles parked at Town bathing beaches between 9 PM - 11 PM are required to have a valid beach-parking permit. 4x4 vehicles are prohibited on any Town beach without a valid 4x4 permit issued by the Board of Trustees.
• CATERERS: Permits will not be issued to caterers/event planners for beach parties; all permits MUST be submitted by the resident/taxpayer only with proof of such status provided. Resident MUST be in attendance of party. A 4x4 permit from the Trustees is also required.
• RESTROOMS: NOT available after 5 PM, Groups of over 50 people must contract for a porta-lav at their own expense. The unit must be delivered the afternoon of the event and removed the morning after the event.

Residents may obtain a Facility Use Permit for beach activity after 6 PM Beer and wine for events after hours permitted only under a separate Alcohol Permit.
DOG POLICY AT PARKS, BEACHES & TRAILS
Rules and regulations governing dogs and other domestic animals on Town property are as follows:
• BEACH RECREATION FACILITIES: Permitted at Town bathing beaches “off-season” from October 1st until April 1st. Dogs must be under control of owner or other responsible person at all times and any animal waste must be removed. Dogs are prohibited all other times at all Town bathing beaches, except for the Foster Memorial Beach (Long Beach) parking lot in Noyac and all access roads.
• “PARKING BY PERMIT ONLY” ACCESS ROADS (BOTH TOWN AND TRUSTEE): Dogs are prohibited from 9 AM to 6 PM from April 1 through October 1. Dogs must be under control of owner or other responsible person at all times and any animal waste must be removed. Additional restrictions may apply if posted as a Special Management Concern Area.
• UPLAND PARKS: Permitted at all times if animal is leashed and under control of the owner or other responsible person and any animal waste is removed. Exceptions: At Red Creek Park, where dogs are permitted on marked “Dog Route” walking trails only, and at Pine Neck Marine Park's off-leash area. Dogs are prohibited in picnic areas, sports fields, playground areas and other areas where posted by the Town Parks Director of Parks & Recreation at any Town Parks Recreation Facility.
• TRAILS: Permitted at all times if animal is under control of owner or other responsible person and any animal waste is removed. Leashing is not required on Town trails.

BAY AVENUE MARINA: 33 Bay Avenue, East Quogue
Purchased by the Town in 2007 with Community Preservation Funds, this facility features a newly renovated bulkhead and 12 floating dock slips for boats 25 feet and smaller. This facility also has kayak racks for 12 boats and a new pavilion named the Ronald Campsey Pavilion with an ADA ramp and sidewalk. Limited water and electric available.
BEAVER DAM MARINA: 8 Beaver Dam Road, Westhampton
Purchased by the Town in 2017 with Community Preservation Funds, this marina has 9 dock slips for boats 25 feet and smaller. Limited water and electric available.
BISHOPS MARINA: 128 South Road, Westhampton
Purchased by the Town in 2021 with Community Preservation Funds, this marina has 16 boats slips for boats 25 feet and smaller. Limited water and electric available.
CONSCIENCE POINT MARINA: 1976 North Sea Road, Southampton
Purchased by the Town in January 2003 with Community Preservation Funds, this is a 5-acre parcel with a 64 slip marina on North Sea Harbor. A project is underway to restore the historic Tupper Boathouse. Features: Restrooms, boat slip rentals, boat storage, gas dock, and other common marina facilities.
PINE NECK MARINA and OFF LEASH PARK: 22 Josiah Foster Path, East Quogue
Purchased by the Town in 2011 with Community Preservation Funds, this marina has 14 floating docks for boats 30 feet and smaller. Pine Neck Marine Park Off Leash Area for dogs consists of a 6 ft. fenced area for large dogs and 6 ft. fenced area for small dogs (under 25 lbs). There is a double-gated entrance with a transition space, dog waste bags and receptacles, and a dog water fountain.
This marina was dedicated to the Town in 2019 from Suffolk County. The marina is located near the end of Dune Road amongst our beautiful beaches. As a commercial fishing dock for Southampton Town, the facility has 20 slips for commercial vessels up to 90 ft. and a dock house.

AND RECREATION OFFICE AND SHINNECOCK CANAL PARK: 6 Newtown Road, Hampton Bays
Located on the Shinnecock Canal, this facility houses the administrative office for the Parks & Recreation Department. Services provided include: beach permit distribution, recreational programs, facility rentals, and so forth. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM. The surrounding 3-acre property was purchased by the Town in 2003 with Community Preservation Funds. This waterfront park is located on the historic Shinnecock Canal with sweeping views of the oldest working lock system, which connects the Peconic Bay and Shinnecock Bay. In addition to the admin building, there is a rock monument, maritime sculpture, park benches, and outdoor picnic pavilion.
Situated on 39 acres amongst the farm fields of Sagaponack, the Townowned Poxabogue Golf Center offers a nine-hole public golf course, pro shop, driving range, and year-round restaurant. The operation and maintenance of the course is overseen by Pin High Golf Management. Head golf professional Steve Feder was named among U.S. Kids' Golf Top 50 instructors. The popular Fairway Restaurant at the course is under a separate management with long-time owner Dan Murray. Poxabogue offers locals and visitors access to a beautiful and affordable venue to play golf on the East End and was featured as one of the “Top 10 Short Courses in the Country” by the Golf Channel. CREEK PARK ACTIVITY CENTER: 102 Old Riverhead Road, Hampton Bays
This facility has a heated building with access to restrooms, kitchen with refrigerator and microwave (no stove) and 2000 sq-ft of activity space. Town residents may reserve the building for a fee. SOUTHAMPTON RECREATION CENTER AT NORTH SEA COMMUNITY PARK: 1370A Majors Path, Southampton
This sports facility was built by Southampton Youth Services (SYS Inc.) on 5-acres of Town-owned land within North Sea Community Park. This a multi-recreational athletic facility, opened in 2003. For more information about programs offered, please go to www.sysinc.org or call SYS at (631) 287-1511.
SQUIRETOWN LODGE AT SQUIRETOWN PARK: 62 Red Creek Road, Hampton Bays
Formerly the Camp Tekakwitha owned by the Girl Scouts of Nassau County, this property was purchased with Community Preservation Funds in 2007. This 65-acre facility is home to the Squiretown Lodge where many recreational programs are held each year. Features: Picnic tables, marked nature trails with access to The Paumanok Trail, and scenic overlook with a staircase on Peconic Bay. Residents may reserve the facility by completing a Facility Use Application. Fees apply.
Located across the road from Tiana Beach, this facility is presently the main site for Town-sponsored swimming lessons, sailing, kayaking and windsurfing instruction programs. The Town has also partnered with Cornell Cooperative Extension on a marine stewardship and education center, which offers an oyster gardening program. Features: Boat tieup facilities (max. boat size 25 ft.), weekend daytime docking for boater access to Tiana Beach (5-hour limit), restrooms, and 156 parking spaces. This seasonal facility has views of the Atlantic Ocean and of Shinnecock Bay. It is used for town recreational programming and is also available to rent to Town residents wishing to host events at this location. The facility can accommodate up to a total of 150 people inside and outside combined. The facility has access to the ocean, wraparound decking, private parking, a prep kitchen with ice machine, bathrooms, stage, gas fire pit, and tables and chairs. This popular bathing beach facility has 250 feet of Atlantic Ocean shoreline. The original parcel was donated to the Town in March 1952 by the Burnett family. ONLY FULL SEASON PERMITS ACCEPTED AT THIS BATHING BEACH; daily parking permits are not available at this location. Features: Lifeguard protection, outdoor shower, mobile concession, 178 parking spaces, handicapped parking, and beach wheelchair available (when a lifeguard is on duty).
FOSTER MEMORIAL LONG BEACH: 1000 Long Beach Road, Noyac
Commonly known as “Long Beach,” this bathing beach offers visitors over one mile of shorefront on scenic Noyac Bay. Long Beach was acquired by the Town in December 1949 from the family of Clifford J. Foster. Town-sponsored programs are offered during the summer season. The parking area is a popular spot for walking, biking, and in-line skating. Features: Lifeguard protection, restrooms, outdoor showers, mobile concession, marked swim area, separate sailboat and power boat area, 419 parking spaces, handicapped beach access, and beach wheelchair available (when lifeguard is on duty).

MECOX BEACH:
535 Jobs Lane, Bridgehampton
Mecox Beach was acquired by the Town in July 1952. Nestled amid some of the East End’s premier architecture, this bathing beach has over 250 feet of ocean shoreline. It is a popular spot for residents and non-residents alike. Features: Lifeguard protection, outdoor shower, restrooms, mobile concession, beach volleyball court, and 111 parking spaces.
PIKES BEACH:
769 Dune Road, Westhampton
Acquired by the Town in July 1952 and operated as a bathing beach until a 1994 hurricane washed away road access, Pikes was re-opened in 2001 after the parking facilities and comfort stations were restored. Features: Lifeguard protection, restrooms, outdoor shower, handicapped beach access and mobile concession. There are 57 parking spaces on the ocean side and 129 parking spaces on the bay side.
PONQUOGUE BEACH: 276 Dune Road, Hampton Bays
Acquired by the Town in July 1952, this picturesque bathing beach is one of the most popular family spots in the Town with over 600 feet of ocean shoreline. Ponquogue Beach is often filled to capacity during summer weekends. This facility was fully renovated in 2019. Features: Lifeguard Protection, restrooms, outdoor shower, food concession, large deck with picnic tables, beach volleyball courts, handicap beach access, beach wheelchair (when an attendant is on duty), 478 parking spaces on ocean side and an overflow of 84 parking spaces on the bay side.
SAGG MAIN BEACH:
315 Sagg Main Road, Sagaponack
Acquired by the Town in 1958, the facilities at this bathing beach were completely renovated in 1993 and upgraded again in 2023. This is the eastern-most of the Town’s beaches, as well as the largest with over 1500 feet of ocean shoreline. Features: Lifeguard protection, outdoor showers, bathrooms, deck with picnic tables, mobile concession, 170 parking spaces, handicapped parking, and beach wheelchair available (when attendant is on duty).
SAND BAR BEACH:
32 Dune Road, Hampton Bays
This beach was purchased in 2002 with Community Preservation Funds. This is an unprotected waterfront non-lifeguarded ocean access with 42 parking spaces.
TIANA BEACH:
90 Dune Road, Hampton Bays
This bathing beach was purchased in December 1957 and has over 1000 feet of shorefront. Features: Lifeguard protection, outdoor shower, restrooms, food concession, deck with picnic benches, beach, volleyball courts, and 847 parking spaces.
W SCOTT CAMERON BEACH: 425 Dune Road, Bridgehampton
This beach was dedicated for the use of residents and taxpayers in March 1968. In addition to its 300 feet of ocean frontage, this bathing beach also overlooks Mecox Bay. Features: Lifeguard protection (July/August), outdoor shower, restrooms, and 58 parking spaces. RESIDENTS ONLY. FULL SEASON PERMITS ACCEPTED AT THIS BATHING BEACH; daily parking permit not available at this location.

EAST QUOGUE VILLAGE GREEN: 630 Montauk Highway, East Quogue
This 3-acre neighborhood park located in downtown East Quogue is designed with a walking track. There is an outdoor pavilion where special events and concerts are held. Features: Playground, walking track, picnic tables, gazebo, outdoor pavilion area, and restrooms.
EDWARD J WARNER SR. OLD PONQUOGUE BRIDGE MARINE PARK: 275 Dune Road, Hampton Bays
When Suffolk County completed construction on the new Ponquogue Bridge in 1986, the north and south approaches of the old drawbridge were left for fishing access into Shinnecock Bay. The piers were nearly destroyed by Superstorm Sandy in 2012. With funding from FEMA, the fishing piers were re-built. Open for use 24 hours per day, 12 months a year. Permits are required for boat launch year round, and parking permits are required May 15 to Sept 15. Features: Boat launch up to 19 ft, fishing access to deep water, scuba diving area, picnic area, gazebo, parking for vehicles with boat trailers, handicapped access.
*EMMA ROSE ELLISTON PARK: 40 Millstone Brook Road, North Sea
With over 100 acres of preserved woodland on the shores of Big Fresh Pond (also known as Lake Missapogue), this park was deeded to the Town by the Elliston Family in July 1952 for residents and taxpayers. In 2023 the park was reconstructed with new retaining walls, walkways and rain garden. Features: Picnic tables, handicapped parking and water access, marked nature trails with access to The Paumanok Trail and Wolf Swamp Sanctuary, and access for hand-launched boats. Unprotected waterfront, non-lifeguarded. Permit parking required from July 1 - Labor Day.
This park offers 7 acres of preserved woodland for the surrounding neighborhood and a children’s playground. Features: Children’s playground with handicap swing, picnic area, and a small parking lot.
GOOD GROUND PARK: 9A Squiretown Road, Hampton Bays
This 36-acre recreational park was purchased with Community Preservation Funds in 2014. This park has an amphitheater for community events and concerts in the summer. Features: Amphitheater seating, playground, picnic tables, restrooms, and nature trails.
HAMPTON WEST PARK: 700 Stewart Avenue, Westhampton
Located across from Suffolk County Gabreski Airport in the Central Pine Barrens area. This 15-acre site has been developed as an active park recreation facility for the western areas of the Town of Southampton. This facility is home to local little league and youth soccer clubs. Features: Playground, 2 basketball courts, 2 asphalt tennis courts, little league turf field, 4 pickleball courts, a multipurpose grass field, and a small parking lot.
*IRON POINT PARK: 150 Woodland Trail, Flanders
Purchased by the Town in February 2002, this 144-acre property is adjacent to the Great Peconic Bay. Located between Evergreen Avenue and Wood Road Trail, this park recreational facility has a lighted grass little league field, a playground, and restrooms.
*LUDLUM AVENUE PARK: 239 Ludlum Avenue, Riverside
Acquired by the Town in 1982, this neighborhood park was developed to provide active recreational facilities for Flanders, Riverside, and Northampton area. Features: Large playground, 2 lighted basketball courts, irrigated multipurpose grass field, renovated ADA accessible restrooms, picnic pavilion with picnic tables, and ample parking.
MECOX BAY PARK: 205 Bay Lane, Water Mill
This is the site of the old Mecox Sailing Shed, which was refurbished in 2018. There are racks for 18 sailboats or kayaks. Please contact Parks and Recreation for lottery information: www.southamptontownny.gov/363/Marinas-Boat-Racks
NORTH SEA COMMUNITY PARK: 1370 Majors Path, North Sea
This 10-acre park is located adjacent to the Southampton Town Rec Center. Facilities include: ball fields, playgrounds, picnic pavillion, walking trail, newly renovated skate park, bocce courts, and 5 pickleball courts. Please see Community Center section for more information on this Recreation Center.
This park sits on the south side of the Peconic River with access along the north side of Flanders Road. A walking trail and parking area were opened in 2024. Additional active recreational development is pending.
SAYRE PARK: 156 Snake Hollow Road, Bridgehampton
This 78-acre parcel stretches from Snake Hollow Road to Long Pond (waterfront access) in Bridgehampton. This park is used by numerous charities for fundraising events.

The development of this facility began in 1980 with the construction of the Town’s first lighted softball field. Centrally located in the Town of Southampton, this regional park facility is easily accessible from most parts of town. This park is comprised of 45 acres dedicated to active recreation. TROUT POND: 3200 Noyac Road, Sag Harbor
Acquired by the Town in 1984, this 35-acre upland property includes a 7-acre freshwater lake impoundment. Trout Pond is designated for passive recreational use, which includes hiking over marked trails and fishing. Unprotected waterfront, non-lifeguarded. Swimming not recommended due to irregular water depths and hazardous bottom conditions.
TUCKAHOE PARK AT SOUTHAMPTON MEADOWS: 16 Summer Drive, Tuckahoe
Donated to the Town as a condition of the subdivision approval for the“Southampton Meadows” Development. This 3.5-acre neighborhood park features a toddlers' playground and 1 tennis court, picnic pavilion, and a walking trail.
WILDWOOD LAKE PARK: 3939 Lake Avenue, Northampton
This property is located adjacent to Wildwood Lake and was acquired by the Town in 2003 with Community Preservation Funds. This is a neighborhood park with restrooms and parking (PARKING PERMIT REQUIRED). Unprotected waterfront, non-lifeguarded.

HISTORIC SITES
BERWIND MEMORIAL GREEN (BEEBE WINDMILL): Ocean Road & Hildreth Road, Bridgehampton
One of only 11 remaining windmills, built in 1820 for Lester Beebe, the smock windmill has a stone foundation and a four-story tower. A national state and local landmark bequeathed to the Town as a memorial to John Berwind, the grounds and mill are maintained by the Parks & Recreation Department as a historic site.
TOWN-OWNED HISTORIC BURIAL GROUNDS: Under State Law, Southampton Town maintains abandoned cemeteries and colonial period burial grounds as Memorial Parks including Westhampton Burying Ground (Quiogue), Pleasure Woods Cemetery (Flanders), East Quogue Burying Ground, Indian Preacher Gravesite, Hubbard Cemetery and Fournier Cemetery in Hampton Bays, Old Noyac Burial Ground, North Sea Burial Ground, Old Southampton Burying Ground and North End Graveyard in the Village of Southampton.
Additional Historic Sites owned by Southampton Town include Nathaniel Rogers House (Bridgehampton), Canoe Place Chapel (Hampton Bays), Prosper King House (Hampton Bays), Ellis Squires Sr. House (Hampton Bays), Lyzon Hat Shop (Hampton Bays), Tiana Life Saving Station (Hampton Bays), Blue Barn (Flanders), Tupper Boathouse (North Sea), Noyac Schoolhouse (Noyac), White Collins Mulvihill House (Sag Habor) and Remsenburg Academy (Remsenburg-Speonk).

The Town is very grateful for the volunteers of the Southampton Trails Preservation Society and their dedicated work at establishing numerous trails throughout the Town. The marked trail systems located on Town property are below. MARKED TRAILS
RED CREEK PARK TRAIL: 102 Old Riverhead Road, Hampton Bays
Features: Three marked trails through upland areas of pitch pine and mixed hardwoods, a fitness trail and an exercise station. Trail maps available at Red Creek Park Office or the Parks and Recreation Department.
VINCE CANNUSCIO WAY: 30 W. Montauk Hwy, Hampton Bays
Paved walking trail located behind the "pocket park" on Main Street, dedicated in 2011 in honor of Vincent Cannuscio, former Southampton Town Supervisor from 1995 to 2001. The Connuscio trail connects Montauk Highway to Good Ground Park. Features: Seating area, large rocks, lattice fence and a reflection garden.
EMMA ROSE ELLISTON PARK TRAIL: 40 Millstone Brook Road, North Sea
With over 100 acres of preserved woodland on the shores of Big Fresh Pond, this park was deeded to the Town by the Elliston Family in July 1952 for the enjoyment of Town residents and taxpayers and as a nature preserve and recreation area. Features: Short but beautiful walk through native plants and trees, foot bridge over stream, views of Big Fresh Pond.
TROUT POND PARK TRAIL: 3200 Noyac Road, Noyac
Features: Short trail parking area. Walk through native plants and trees to view fiveacre Trout Pond (southern portion). Trail crosses foot bridges over small fresh water streams.
GOOD GROUND PARK TRAIL: 9A Squiretown Road,
Hampton Bays
Features: Short trail parking area, restrooms. We partner with the South Fork Natural History Museum (SoFo) for seasonal guided bird walks.

Southampton Town Parkland is NOT to be used for hunting; however, trail users should always be aware of hunters on adjacent lands during hunting season, November-January.
Fire, alcoholic beverages, littering, traps, and ATVs are prohibited on Town Property. Dogs are not required to be leashed on trails but must be under the control of the owner or other responsible person. See section on Dog Policy for more information.

Order copies of the Southampton West--Trail Guide Map and Southampton East-Trail Guide Map by going to www.southamptontownny.gov/TRAILMAPS. FEES: $10 each map; $15 when you purchase both east & west at the same time. Payment can be made at pick-up office.
