By winning six of the eight major feature races he contested, Wolf Power more than fulfilled the promise he showed old. He proved to be unbeatable between 1400m and 1600m and on the two occasions they met during the season Wolf Power finished well in front of the country's top race filly Tecla Bluff. This Flirting Around colt is obviously above average and was the most consistent feature race winner of the season.

This Argentinian bred filly w6 relatively sparingly raced during 1983 and Terence Millard had her at her peak for the July Handicap where she convincingly beat among others her more fancied stable companion Arctic Cove and the top three year old Gondolier. To prove that run w6 no fluke she then ran out a comforable winner of the Cldrwood Winter Handicap bringing her total raoe season earnings to R266 4(X), more than four timee her career earnings e a three year old. Her recent record shows that Tecla Bluff is obviously the contry's top racing filly but unfortunaely any claim as being top racehorse of the year may be a little ambitious in light of her poor runs in the Oueens Plare behind Wolf Power and behind Arctic Cove in the J & B Metropolitan Handicap.

Towards the latter part of the season Ted's Ambition showed a wetcome form return and won the Durban Merchnts and the Stewards Cup laying a strong claim to being the sprinter of the year. His best form howsver was confined to the fast Greyville track. At Scotaville in the Gilbey Stakes he we convincingly beaon by Smackeroo who reached his peak at iust the right time to beat a strong field. Smackeroo's fct and impressive win in the Gilbeys was full of merit and on the strength of that run takes his plee as sprinter of the year. Smackeroo also he yet to run unplaced over his best distance of 1200m.

This clmsy colt must rate as the most improved runner in the country. From winning his maiden in November he later went on to capture two major feature events and then ran a very creditable second in the Rot{rman'l July Handicap.

Rain Forest did win both the Rockgrip and tre South African Guineas but showed his stamina limitations when beaten

by Gondolier in the 1800m Sigma Clasic and the S.A. Two Thousand at Greyville. Gondolier's run in the July drouod him to be an above average three year old with great potential for the coming season.

Although narrowly beaten by Moccmin in the Smirnoff Plate Bold Speed more than redeemed his reputation by first winning the Administrator's Ghampion Juvenile Stakes and then set a new clcs record when winning tln Natal Free Handicap over 12fi)m carrying 60,5 kg., which w6 an above ayerage performance. He may prorre to havo rtamina limitations over more ground but as a 2 year old samped himelf m tre best sprinter of his age.
