Meet the Summer Staff

A special meet and greet event was held on Friday, June 2, to officially open the Souris Pool. Special pricing for swimming along with games provided by the Camp Runamuck staff from 4:00 -8:00 p.m. saw approximately 150 children and adults enjoy the first day of a record breaking weather weekend! Janz’s where on hand with their food truck serving up delicious hamburgers and hot dogs. It was exciting for the kids to welcome back Mr. Frog after being away for a holiday! Elgin Museum looking for information on quilts submitted We, at the Elgin Museum, are once again asking for your stories, this time about quilts, quilting bees, and so on. We have recently received two wonderful quilts, both of historical interest, and are making these, along with those already in our collection, the focus of our 2017 museum

display. But we need your help! Each quilt, now as then, holds a story. Of how it was made, of the people who made it, of the events which lay behind it. Quilting was once an important social activity, primarily of a community’s ladies. A time when friends and neighbours could get together, exchange stories and laugh or

cry or commiserate one with the other, display their artistic talents and ‘feel’ for colour and pattern …. And we want to know all of this. A quilt by itself is a lovely but incomplete thing. It is the stories the quilt holds that make it special. And that’s what we want to tell, with your help. So please, if you have stories

you can share with us, or even a quilt (or picture of such) that you would be willing to share for the summer, please contact Alexis MacLean (204-769-2311), Box 14, Elgin, MB, R0K 0T0, maddcat@mynetset.ca) or Marg Robbins (204-769-2147), Box 156, Elgin, MB, R0K 0T0. Share your memories of those special quilts

you have known, and perhaps made, of the people who helped, of the times shared. Let those quilts once again speak of the love, the happiness, the sorrow and the people they commemorate. And help us to share their stories with the people of Westman.
