Welcome to Sourcing Summit New York 2019.

After seven years of producing this event, we’ve learned a lot about what our attendees want—and what they don’t. As we put together this year’s show, we knew there was one thing you didn’t want: Noise.

Apparel, textiles and footwear are industries filled with idle talk and false promises. Whether it’s coming from an email or, yes, from a tweet, the sourcing world is becoming polluted with racket that’s weighing down our decisions.

We’re as tired as you are of overused buzzwords like disruption and apocalypse and revolution, and we’re especially weary of seeing them used to justify struggling balance sheets. We can point our fingers at tariffs, but this industry was suffering long before President Trump came into the picture, and it will continue after his term because we haven’t updated the way we operate in nearly a century.

This year’s event is about The New Fundamentals; a playbook for today’s sourcing model.

The rules in sourcing have changed, and anyone who wants to compete needs to shift both their mindset and their execution. She began working for Inditex in 2007 at the company’s headquarters in Arteixo, Spain, during which time she served as the main coordinator of Inditex’s Global Annual Report, and where she worked closely with the global sustainability team.

Amaya relocated to New York in August 2017 to lead Inditex’s corporate affairs’ efforts in the Americas.

Rick Helfenbein is president and CEO of the American Apparel & Footwear Association, the national trade association representing more than 1,000 brands in the apparel, footwear, and accessories industry. Rick became president and CEO in February of 2016 and leads the association and its operations.

Previously, Rick was president of all USA operations for Luen Thai Holding Limited, the largest publicly listed apparel manufacturing and supply chain services company on the Hong Kong Exchange, manufacturing for brands, including Polo Ralph Lauren, Coach, Adidas and Michael Kors.

Edwin Keh is CEO of The Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA).

He is also on faculty at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where he teaches supply chain operations. Until April 2010 Edwin was the senior vice president and chief operating officer of Walmart Global Procurement. Prior to Walmart, Edwin managed a consulting group that has done work for companies on supply chain, manufacturing and product design.

Stephen Lamar is executive vice president at the American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA). Steve is responsible for the design and execution of AAFA lobbying strategies on a series of issues covering trade, supply chains and brand protection. In these roles, Steve also advises AAFA member companies on legislation and regulatory policies affecting the clothing and footwear industries.

Steve is also president of the Washington International Trade Association (WITA), a nonprofit, non-partisan organization dedicated to providing a neutral forum for discussion of international trade policy and related issues.
