Initial Ground Plan

Roeland’s Corner came about by looking collectively at our buildings precint and creating a community within the three buildings on our site.

Residents of Roeland’s Corner cultivate their gardens, producing groceries for a vibrant market on the public ground floor, similar to places like Mojo Market and Old Biscuit Mill. The market stalls offer a variety of locally produced foods or products, creating a bustling and diverse marketplace. A small stage hosts live music and performances during market hours, adding a cultural dimension to the community space.

Roeland’s Corner creates a harmonious blend of sustainable living, community engagement, and cultural enrichment.

LANDSCAPE MEMORIAL

Design Development The site investigation around Cape Town’s Observatory and River Club revealed an interesting topography with the canal, inspiring the development of the museum. Decanalising the river along with augmenting the contours of the site, created a harmonious and resilient space that caters to the occasional flooding of the canal and wetlands.

The museum, strategically integrates itself into the landscape, not only to respect the natural beauty of the site but also become a flood-resistant structure, showcasing a thoughtful blend between aesthetics and functionality.

The museam embedds itself into its landscape and allows itself to frame the site.
