Southern Oklahoma Technology Center will allow any student who currently resides within District No. 20, to attend our short-term/ open enrollment courses at the rates as advertised in the course catalog (printed and online). Any student who lives in a district that is not served by Southern Oklahoma Technology Center will be charged a rate twice the tuition, plus books and supplies. Please call for this price.

On November 7, 2000, state question #690 was approved at general election allowing school districts to ask voters to stabilize their building fund operations. It was noted that the monetary and labor expense of conducting annual elections was nonproductive and the lack of solid annual funding was preventing schools from long-term planning. By late 2002, all building fund millage in all 584 Oklahoma comprehensive public schools and all 29 tech centers in Oklahoma voted their building fund operations ‘permanent’ with the approval of a second ballot question. At the time, SOTC only had 2 building fund mills in place, as the campus was considerably smaller.

SOTC is simply late in asking for the necessary building fund mills to be made permanent in order to maintain the expanded campus.

Please do not confuse building fund operational millage with a bond issue. It is a different request than one may be accustomed to from a (K-12) public school. Restricted by the Oklahoma constitution, bond issues are all that remain on the table for local, common K-12 schools. Unfortunately, they maxed out their allowable operations millage years ago, again, limited by the state constitution. Technology centers are set up differently and cover a much larger geographic area. The SOTC district includes portions of seven counties in southern Oklahoma. As a regional center, SOTC pulls in smaller amounts of funding from a larger group of people to create a critically-needed hub for workforce training.

I know it may be hard to believe, but we are celebrating our 50th anniversary! On August 29, 1966, SOTC (then known as Southern Oklahoma Vocational School) opened its doors for the first time. High school students enrolled in a choice of 12 different programs.

Today, SOTC offers 30 full-time programs to high school and adult students. Academic instructors, Industrial training specialists, and career counselors have rounded out the staff. In addition, the school is open most days and nights to accommodate shortterm training programs for adults. Last year, we enrolled more than 7,000 people in this area alone.

Customized training for businesses is now offered and last year we provided training to roughly 7,000 incumbent workers representing over 150 different companies in the SOTC district.

The funds are greatly needed to catch up on numerous building maintenance issues. With the major campus expansion from 2009-2012, the square footage of the campus grew by 30%, while the total enrollment increased proportionately.

The larger campus requires a greater maintenance commitment and we are serious about protecting your investment.

Additional programs aimed at meeting the needs of area employers are in the Engineering Technology building.

Skills include CNC machining, computer aided drafting, robotics, hydraulics, pneumatics, and programmable logic controllers. Planning, managing and creating final products, and related support activities such as, production planning and control. Maintenance and manufacturing/process engineering are common skills students may learn.

SOTC’s award winning biotechnology program is partnered solidly with the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation research laboratories and the Oklahoma State University Institute for Agricultural Biosciences. Programs such as contractor safety training and partnerships such as the University of Oklahoma bachelor’s degree program in dental hygiene attest to the vision and leadership of SOTC’s staff.

Nationally recognized, trade specific certification attainment is the goal for every student. Students can also leave SOTC with their Career Readiness Certificate offered through Work Keys, nationally recognized by businesses in 35 states. Through Tech Centers That Work, SOTC is charting the course for students academically, helping them increase math, reading and writing scores, and providing a solid groundwork of employability skills.

SOTC will be celebrating 50 years of instruction on August 29, 2016. The campus will be open from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to allow members of the community to tour our facilities and see how much the campus has expanded and transformed since first opening its doors on August 29, 1966. There will be activities scheduled throughout the campus with a trolley to provide transportation to each building and a cake cutting ceremony in the Ken Chaffin Student Center in Stone Hall at 6:30 p.m.

• Enrollment is available on a first come, first serve basis.

• Enroll at least 2 weeks prior to class start date. Space is limited.

• SOTC reserves the right to cancel classes, alter time schedules, and make any other changes necessary to facilitate the instructional process.

• Minimum age for enrollment is 18 except for the MSF-BasicRider Motorcycle Safety Course.

• Dismissal of day classes for bad weather does NOT mean evening class will be dismissed. Please tune in to local radio, TV stations, www.sotc.edu, or the SOTC Ardmore, SOTC Murray County or SOTC Western Extension Center Facebook pages for information.

• Completion Certificates are available upon request.

Please tell your instructor the last day of class.

• SOTC does not allow children to attend class with enrolled adults.

• The in-district advertised price of the class includes tuition, books and supplies unless otherwise stated.

• Class space is reserved with full payment at time of enrollment.

• Company and/or Agency billing with authorized verification is accepted. Companies will be billed if a sponsored student does not show up for class if the withdrawal policy is not followed.

• Southern Oklahoma Technology Center will allow any student who currently resides within the district to attend our short-term/open enrollment courses at the rates as advertised in the course catalog (printed and online). Any student who lives in a district that is not served by Southern Oklahoma Technology Center will be charged a rate twice the tuition, plus books and supplies. Any student who lives outside the state will also incur an additional charges. Please call for these prices.

second class meeting. * If books were already dispersed, they must be returned in new/resale condition to receive a refund.

• No refund after the second class meeting regardless of the student’s attendance.

• No refund on books or supplies if they have already been given to the student.

• Full refund if the class is canceled by SOTC. Please allow at least 2 weeks to process refunds.

• No refunds for classes which have been postponed due to inclement weather or other circumstances beyond our control. We will make every effort to reschedule these classes.
