arbondale Rotary heads south of the border for this year’s Happening. With a theme of Viva Mexico, the annual fund-raiser celebrates all things Mexico, including music, culture and cuisine. It all happens at the Gathering Center on Snowmass Drive. The doors open at 4:30 p.m. with Happening action starting with a cocktail hour from 5 to 6 p.m. The

Happening crowd is invited to mosey into the church’s auditorium and view dozens of silent auction items. From there, it’s on to a buffet dinner in the Orchard catered by Fiesta’s Café and Cantina. The four-piece group Valle Musico – whose sound is described as “elegant” guitar-based music with jazz, classical, Latin and worldbeat elements – opens the night. Said Carbondale vocalist Lisa DancingLight, “Valle Musico takes me on a cultural, musical journey … to places of soul-stirring

melodies and rhythms, weaving a magnificent mastery of musicianship with their guitars, bass, percussion." Valle Musico was inspired by bandmember John Ramos’ meeting with music icon Paul Simon as his “Graceland” album was being released in 1987. “ … Paul Simon stated that music, for him, was essentially about guitars and percussion,” Ramos says on the Valle Musico website. Next up after Valley Musico, Nightplane promises to get just about everyone
