Who We Are: Meals on Wheels of Southwest OH & Northern KY has been serving seniors in our community since 1937. We are a hot meal for someone who might otherwise go hungry. We are a friendly face and visit for someone who might otherwise have no human connection. We are peace of mind for caregivers and loved ones. We are so much more than a meal!

What We Do: We provide a million delicious, healthy meals to seniors in our community each year, most of whom are homebound. The need for our services tripled during COVID shutdowns, and remains doubled. We fight loneliness and isolation, assist with independent living tasks, and perform critical safety checks. Our Pet Portions and Pet Care programs provide food and veterinary care for the cats and dogs of Meal recipients, so that seniors can keep their furry family members home and healthy, as well.

Why We’re Important: The average life expectancy is at a record high of 79 years. Even the most independent among us may experience physical declines or financial hardship that strips away our ability as we age. Add to that an increase in geographic mobility of families, and the result is millions of seniors left behind, hungry and alone. COVID has isolated seniors and families more than ever, and we’ve gotten creative and innovative in how we meet these changing needs – with outreach calls to more than 30,000 seniors, customized home delivered grocery services, strategic healthcare partnerships and more.

How We Serve the Community: We work closely with seniors, case managers, family members and caregivers to help keep seniors safe and healthy at home. Our in-home visits provide unique opportunities to meet nutritional needs, combat isolation, address safety hazards and provide holistic care. Our programs keep beloved pets with the seniors who love them, and out of shelters. We can serve a senior for an entire year for about the same cost as just one day in a hospital, or 10 days in a nursing home – we can accomplish this because of our trusted and unique ability to cross the threshold into seniors’ homes.

How You Can Help: Many seniors can’t do it alone, and neither can we! We need your help to meet a growing need. A gift of just $250 can provide a month’s worth of home-delivered nutritious meals and friendly visits to a homebound senior – 100% of all gifts stay in our local community! We offer meaningful volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups of all ages. You can prepare meals in our kitchen, or help deliver meals directly to people in need! Have a professional skill set and want to make a significant impact? Opportunities exist for board membership, special projects and technical assistance.
