Springer School and Center
Who we are: Springer School and Center is the only school in the region devoted entirely to the education of children with learning disabilities (LD). Through our outreach programs, parents and professionals develop an understanding of learning disabilities and the most effective means to address them. The Day School serves 200 students in grades 1-8 with a staff-to-student ratio of 1:6. The school features research-based curriculum specially designed for children with learning disabilities. Springer's Center builds learning potential - one student, one parent, one educator at a time through community outreach programs.
What We Do: Our Day School designs a comprehensive academic program for each student including instruction in art, music and physical education. Students use technology tools that support their success at Springer, which equips them for success beyond. Springer's Center provides programming for students, parents and professionals that reflects current thinking in the field of learning disabilities and the education of those with LD and ADHD. Each year, the Center hosts nationally renowned experts to address parents and professionals. This year's speaker, on September 30, 2021, will be Jessica McCabe, actress, writer and YouTube personality best known for the YouTube channel How to ADHD.
Why We're Important: Research indicates that as many as one in five students may struggle with learning and/or attentional issues. In a typical classroom, LD and ADHD cause students to fall behind their peers in school. With the knowledge of their own learning profile and custom-designed strategies they gain at Springer, students will be successful in traditional classrooms, and in life beyond school. The Center is an important resource for educators and other professionals. How We Serve the Community: Students with LD can find success at Springer. The Center's professional development programs raise awareness among local professionals and equip them to better serve the needs of their students with LD and ADHD. The Center also offers parents referrals, consulting services and classes that build parents' understanding of the learning process and offer strategies for managing their children's learning difficulties.
How You Can Help: With the generous support of donors, Springer offered more than $1,100,000 in need-based financial aid to 48 percent of our students last year. You can help by making a donation to Springer's Annual Fund or attending our annual fundraising dinner. For more information, visit Springer-LD.org/giving. Your support will help make Day School and Center programming available to more children, parents and professionals affected by learning disabilities.
