deCavel Family SIDS Foundation

WhoWe Are: The deCavel Family SIDS Foundation is a local non-profit organization dedicated to funding the fight against Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) in the Greater Cincinnati area. The Foundation was formed by Jean-Robert and Annette de Cavel after the abrupt death of their firstborn child, Tatiana, to SIDS in 2002. Tatiana is one of roughly 2,000 infants who lose their lives to SIDS each year. The de Cavel family envisions a world where no parent will ever again know the tragedy of losing a child to SIDS.

What We Do: We support SIDS research, education and awareness, and we work to support the families who have lived through the heartbreak of losing a child to SIDS. Our signature event is the EatPlayGive Friends & Family Brunch, held each year in October. Many local chefs, restaurants and families donate time and talent to create a unique, casual, family-friendly event to raise money to support the fight against SIDS.

Why We Are Important: SIDS remains the leading cause of death for babies between 1 month and 1 year old in the United States. Over 2,000 babies die each year from SIDS nationally. SIDS deaths in Greater Cincinnati, while declining, continue to exceed the national average. The de Cavel Foundation is a local charity, and the money we raise stays in our community – where it’s needed most.

How We Serve The Community: Over the past 15 years, the de Cavel Foundation has raised over $1 million to support local partners in the fight against SIDS. We choose partners and projects carefully, seeking to impact as many lives in Greater Cincinnati as possible with each project. The effective organizations we’ve helped support include Cribs4Kids, Cradle Cincinnati, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Hamilton County Children First Council and Hamilton County Job & Family Services. A small portion of our donations also fund The Tatiana de Cavel Scholarship Fund at the Midwest Culinary Institute at Cincinnati State, providing tuition, supplies and income assistance for dozens of students since 2006.

How You Can Help: As we enter our 16th year, our greatest need is sponsorship. With the right partners, we can urgently address the local needs for education and awareness while supporting research to help eliminate SIDS. Please contact Annette de Cavel for details about the benefits of sponsorship.
