Boys Hope Girls Hope Cincinnati
Who We Are: The mission of Boys Hope Girls Hope is to nurture and guide motivated young people in need to become well-educated, careerready men and women for others. BHGH serves underprivileged youth in Cincinnati by providing residential, therapeutic, and educational assistance. BHGH’s scholars are in grades 7-12, are academically capable and motivated, without access to quality education, living at or below the poverty level, and come from socio-economically disadvantaged environments. Scholars live in one of the three BHGH homes (Gardner, Heidt, and H.C. Schott) Sunday – Friday evening, where our program offers our scholars holistic support from staff, mentors, and counselors.
What We Do: While living in the family-like homes, scholars are enrolled in college preparatory schools, participate in extracurricular activities, and are encouraged to participate in volunteer work in the community. Our program wraps our scholars in many services, providing food, clothing, shelter, access to top parochial schools, mentoring, tutoring and probably most importantly, therapeutic mental health services. Our main objective is to have them successfully complete high school, go on to college and ultimately gain employment. We know education is the great equalizer and by supporting our children on this path, we know they will break the generational cycle of poverty.
Why We’re Important: Most of our scholars are the first in their families to go to college. Our program not only supports our scholars but we know the long-term ripple effect it has on their families financial and future outlook. Our scholars show immediate improvements in academic changes, character development, social and emotional strength, cultural fluency, spiritual enrichment, and community service and engagement. Our program is a deep investment in their futures and we support our scholars for years. Our program supports our scholars and gives their families' a financial boost because of the many expenses our program supplies for their children.
How We Serve the Community: Boys Hope Girls Hope firmly believes that children have the power to overcome adversity, realize their potential, and help transform our world. Children create these successes when we remove obstacles, support and believe in them, and provide environments and opportunities that build on their strengths.
How You Can Help: Typically, there are numerous ways to be a part of our organization and the life-changing programs we offer. You can tutor, mentor or volunteer. Volunteers are welcome to bring dinner to one of our houses, help with an event or help identify corporations and individuals that might want to support our cause. Due to COVID-19, we have had to close our houses to volunteers. Once our programming can go back to normal, we will be excited to welcome new volunteers! Whether it’s tickets to an event for our scholars, clothing or a financial donation, every contribution makes a difference!
