The illustration above depicts the muscle-skin contact that happens during arm movement. The flexing points demonstrate how the skin around a muscle is impacted as it bends. The concept of pulling skin is also investigated, as is how muscle activity promotes skin movement in a certain direction. The bigger cylinders translate the pulley concept into the idea that they influence how the muscle moves, and consequently how the skin moves.

Mapping out the points which act as a symbol for human joints. Adding arm systems onto the joint diagram. Skin system that drapes over muscle and joints.

Understanding how the muscle movement influences the skin with the overall notion of 'pulling' represented. The notion may be shown by showing how particular arm motions infleunce the skin; this is translated as the muscular system being a pulley system with a fabric representing the skin. When the pulley moves, the skin moves with it.

Allegory of Hades

The initial version consists of a basic structure affixed to a roof that may be interacted with. Anyone who visits the intillation can hand pull the cloth. When the string is pulled and the fabric moves, the fabric is conducted by walking to where the string falls. In this view, the individual represents Hades tugging Persephone, who is the skin.

The second edition includes the addition of a new mechanic element. The pulley movement influences the cloth when the mechanic part moves. Some pieces of the fabric are linked to the same corner, allowing the fabric to move along new axes and achieve more complicated form movement.

The third iteration looked at the notion of having an exhibition that allowed people to weave in and out of a moving structure that expands and retracts in particular spots to allow people to feel different emotions as they moved through it. As the model opens, individuals may enter, but as they wander around, the building shrinks in size, giving the impression of being crushed or imprisoned. This would allow the metaphor to be shown physically and allow for a range of emotions to be felt based on where they are within the institution.

Breaking down the mechanical pieces needed to develop and fabricate the design so that the show may be built. The design of each component allows the model to be built in such a way that the wires do not restrict the movement of people.
