Our initial primary research, conducted before we chose WEEKDAY as the brand for this project, suggests that although the majority of our demographic has heard of WEEKDAY they do not shop with the brand. However, the graph on the far right suggests this would change if the demographic had access to a local store.
Bridge the gap between trendy streetwear and affordable, accessible clothing for the population of Nottingham.
Weekday – part of the H&M group. Founded in 2002 the brand ships to 97 markets and has 16 stores, including four in London and one in Sheffield.
Offering a modern/youthful shopping experience with a curated collection of staple pieces for all genders and sizes.
The Gen Z population of Nottingham currently has no destination for trendy and core pieces that are both affordable and accessible.
With around 30% of Nottingham’s population aged 18 to 29 and full-time university students comprising about 1 in 7 of the population (Nottingham Insight, 2021)
This large portion of the city’s population would benefit from a retailer that provides fashion in line with Gen Z’s shopping habits. McDonalds restaurant on the corner of Exchange
Walk and St Peter’s Gate closed after 34 years (Pitchess, 2023) leaving an 8,400 sq ft property empty in the heart of the city.
Measure of success - the success of the Sheffield store in it’s participation with the ‘Heart of Your City’ regeneration scheme suggests a similar response from the mirrored population of Nottingham.
Sheffield and Nottingham both have around 60,000 students living in the city (Nottingham Trent University, 2023)
The chosen building hosts two floors and floor to ceiling windows with 8,400 sq ft retail space similar to the Regent Street and Sheffield stores.
Close to brands with similar consumer base (H&M, New Look, Flannels) creating a customer journey throughout the south of Nottinghamcity centre.
Existing footfall in the area is steady with shoppers on their way to H&M, Flannels, M&S and New Look.
Commuters make up a large portion of the current footfall as this area is the most direct walking route to the train station and Broadmarsh bus station.
From our own observations we noticed this area is a busy cross section of people eating on benches, stopping at pop up food trucks and tourists admiring the architecture and sculptures in St Peter’s Square.
With WEEKDAY’s target consumer profile focussing on Gen Z (the Early Adopters), a central location for the store was necessary. Nottingham is home to 60,000 students aged between 18 and 25 (Nottingham Trent University, 2023) and when considering the existing store’s location in Sheffield we concluded that a similar loction for the Nottingham store was of paramount importance.
The new spaces created by the regeneration initiative are largely targeted at the young people of Nottingham.
The Broadmarsh regeneration will create an open, vibrant, welcoming space in the city for anyone arriving by public transport with “tree-lined space, public art, and outdoor cafés, attractive spaces for people to enjoy” (Nottingham City Council, 2023).

Urban Outfitters offer 10% student discounts, Weekday offers 20%.
They have similar product pricing however Weekday’s quality is better.

Customers have the option to shop online and pick up items from store - this allows them to browse the shop floor and creates further purchasing potential.
Collaborating with local businesses in Nottingham - sharing customer base, therefore attracts more people and gives numerous points of interest.
Shoppers have the chance to earn commission by selling their own garments; this brings a new audience to the store who may not have considered buying Weekday items before.
Creates a different purchasing opportunity, where garments become personal - not offered by competitors creating another reason to visit the store.
Weekday has an online T-shirt customisation ‘Design Mode’ as well as their monthly unique ‘Zeitgeist’ T-shirt release both features would make the store unique in offering a personalised experience.
Collaborating with brands for pop ups that would interest the consumer & supports local businesses.
Beyond retro vintage clothing pop up, a brand that WEEKDAY has worked closely with in the past.
Refurbishment to the current design of weekday’s changing rooms will be made for a more immersive experience.
Perfect location in St peters square for footfall and dwell time giving the store a unique propsition in comparison to competitors.
For the store’s launch night there will be live music, complementary Prosecco to customers over 18 as well as a tour around our new innovative and unique store, letting consumers shop and socialise.
Seasonally, creating anticipation for the next session amongst customers - creates great opportunity for social media marketing & teasing for the next workshop dates & themes.
Creates a sense of community through shared craft, Encourages people to learn a new skill.

Different types of customisations each season - eg: how to fray a denim jacket with staff members, Graphic t-shirt printing, bleaching clothes, Jewellery making.

are Fashion Management students with an in-depth knowledge of the ring levels of first-hand experience in industry. This level of commercial h effective research skills has enabled the team to develop an innovative ingham.
All team members live in Nottingham and have an understanding of the local culture, constituting a real passion for the opportunity to boost both the local community and economy. Team members are all part of Gen Z (WEEKDAY’s main demographic). We have a strong awareness of what content we as a generation find most engaging and what marketing strategies/channels work most effectively.
As consumers of competing brands in the area, we as a team are aware they do not offer the additional features that we have outlined for the Nottingham WEEKDAY store.
Strong team dynamic that we helped to establish using The Model of Small Group Development (Tuckman and Jensen, 1997) after a seminar, we were able to delegate roles and create an understanding and productive environment.
