Led by our school Chaplain, this weekly club held at breaktime is relaxed and enjoyable.

The children play games, chat, but also learn about Bible stories and festivals.

Instructed by qualified and experienced staff, this is a great chance to use our fantastic indoor climbing wall in Catteral Pavilion, learn climbing skills and techniques, and even take on further challenges, such as blindfolded climbs!

An evening club for keen hockey players with an opportunity to join with older pupils in Year 7 and 8 to practise and develop hockey skills.

Speech and Drama is available privately in groups of two or three pupils. They work on improvisation and role play towards LAMDA examinations.

Trips and visits

The most distinctive aspect of a Giggleswick education is its focus on personal and social development. We seek to bring out the best in each child by nurturing their individual interests, skills and talents through a broad curriculum, helping them to build confidence, character and a strong sense of responsibility to give them the best start in life.

Squash Club

If you like being creative and expressing yourself, this is the club for you. Using a range of materials in our art room, children can paint, create ceramics, print, weave and even use the 3D printer for their creations!

For children who enjoy building and creating things, this is the perfect club for them. We have great fun with Lego, Meccano and other construction kits. We also use our iPads to code our creations to take on various challenges.

Individual private lessons can be organised in almost any instrument. Guitar, piano, drums, violin, saxophone, singing and many more are all available to trial and take up on a regular basis.

Using our own squash courts, children develop basic skills and technique, learn the game, build their stamina and agility, but most importantly have fun. We have a junior school squash league each year with trophies handed out for various categories.

Ballet Lessons

Cooking Club

With a qualified and experienced ballet instructor, children can learn the key skills and techniques for ballet. There are also opportunities to perform for parents, friends and family throughout the year as part of a large ensemble group.

Using our Home Economics kitchens, the children get to make and bake a range of tasty delights, and hopefully learn a few recipes to try at home too!

Boarders Saturday activities An action-packed programme of activities for boarders on Saturdays which include trips to Blackpool, Lightwater Valley, Harrogate, local caves and villages, all organised by our Junior Boarding Tutor.

History

Clubs, trips and visits Here, learning does not stop at the classroom door and we believe strongly in the benefits of participation across a wide range of activities. There are over 20 clubs and activities happening every week in the junior school and everyone is encouraged to take part. We also organise regular trips and visits out of school to inspire their learning and expand their horizons.

Orchestra

Swimming Club

A weekly slot for pupils taking instrumental lessons to practise and gain the experience of performing within a larger group. The orchestra works towards performances at concerts and our Performing Arts Festival.

This is part of our weekly enrichment programme in Key Stage 2.

A chance for children to develop their swimming strokes and technique, as well as practising diving and confidence underwater, all in our own swimming pool.

A session for keen cricketers to get some batting and bowling practice in the cricket nets and develop their skills with our Head of Junior Sport. This is part of our weekly enrichment programme in Key Stage 2.

Our Outdoor Adventure Club makes the most of our wonderful natural landscape and our designated forest setting. The children love getting their hands dirty by foraging and den building. It is also a chance to learn first aid and other important skills.

Top-class coaching is available on Giggleswick’s grass courts, hard courts and indoor court at the school with a qualified LTA tennis coach.

An opportunity for quiet reflection during break-time, mindfulness drawing, meditation and colouring.

A chance to further develop running technique and improve stamina, but more importantly the opportunity for pupils to enjoy the local routes around the Giggleswick area and the fantastic countryside.

We have a mentoring scheme for pupils to find a buddy at breaktime for play and chat.

Our buddies are given weekly training by staff on how to look after and support other children.

Expanding on our performing arts lessons, this popular club involves role-playing, improvisation, reading and acting out scripts, as well as lots of fun and games to further prepare the children for the stage.

Three Peaks Running Club

A weekly choir practice for all pupils in Y3-6 led by our Head of Junior Performing Arts, where the children learn a variety of songs, as well as harmonisation, ahead of the many concerts and performances across the school year. This is part of our weekly enrichment programme in Key Stage 2.

Time to develop your green fingers! In our gardening club children get to choose and grow their own vegetables and flowers in our garden area. We create bird feeders, encourage natural habitats and look after our school chickens too!

An opportunity for our Year 6 pupils who are considering entering for an Academic or AllRounder scholarship to our Senior School.

They spend time with staff looking at Maths, English, verbal and non-verbal assessments.

During the summer term there is the opportunity for our older pupils to take on the challenge of the legendary Three Peaks – Pen-y-ghent, Ingleborough and Whernside, tackling each one separately in three sessions. Each runner receives a certificate on completion of all three peaks.
