Welcome to R&B Switchgear Group.

The ‘R&B switchgear group’ comprises a number of individual companies with common ownership strategically located throughout the UK and USA. R&B Switchgear Group specialises in the design and build of bespoke MV and LV switchboards and the site installation, maintenance and repair of HV, MV and LV switchgear and associated equipment.

Our in-house design and development department embark on challenging retrofit solutions for ageing, worn out, damaged or obsolete circuit breakers and switchboards. We also offer a design solution department for upgrading and replacing obsolete protection relays, control relays and any other switchgear related products which our customers need to upgrade or replace.

Our dedicated team of electrical and mechanical CAD engineers provide all the related drawings to enable on-site modifications are carried out with full transparency and precision.

As a group, we provide our services in a prompt and efficient manner in accordance with the expectations of the industry’s leading governing bodies, and are accredited to ISO 9001, FPAL and Link-up standards.

switchgear Accredited service for the installation and maintenance of LV, MV and HV switchgear.

R&B Switchgear provides a safe and reliable electrical distribution network. We design, manufacture, install and commission electrical switchgear, tailor-made to suit individual requirements.

Each switchboard is specifically designed to operate to the clients specifications and electrical parameters specified during the engineering process which R&B can take a leading role or be guided by the design criteria laid down by consultants.

All of our new switchgear is fully type-tested and built to either European or ANSI standards depending on the region and installation requirements.

Design / Manufacture / Installation

Lloyds, DNV and BV will be included during commissioning and FAT testing to ensure any marine installations built by any of the R&B companies will be accepted by any specified insuring companies.

More than 25 years’ experience delivering bespoke switchgear solutions.

As a recognised Schneider system-builder, R&B is one of an exclusive group of companies to hold the Okken license. This system is one of the world’s most comprehensive type-tested switchboards and is certified to nuclear power station seismic test and marine classification standards, with a busbar fault rating up to 150KA for 1 sec and with a current rating up to 7500A at 690V. We also manufacture switchboards of our own design utilising rolla steelwork and busbar systems up to 6300A at 80KA. For other low end ratings we can also build Dorman Smith ‘Modis’ and Schneider ‘Prisma’ options up to 3200A at 80KA. For medium voltage solutions we design and build in-house ABB – Unigear Medium Voltage Switchgear c/w withdrawable Vacuum or SF6 circuit breakers and contactors.

For clients seeking an alternative, we also build LSIS Medium voltage equipment

by LG, both of which form part of our recognised system builder partnerships with both ABB and LG. R&B switchgear provides all the site engineers for the installation, testing and servicing of its in house built equipment, including the site services for existing installations requiring retrofits, repairs or routine servicing and testing of circuit breakers and protection relays.

We also provide switchboard installation, test and commissioning services for other manufacturers of switchgear equipment who do not have this extended facility.

For customers requiring the installation of ‘arc protection’ to safeguard their equipment we now offer a design and installation service which can be introduced at the build time of your switchgear and can be retrofitted to existing unprotected switchboards.

Our solution utilises the hardware equipment from the ABB range REA equipment which can trip main feeds into a switchboard in less than 80ms.

As a major manufacturer of both AC and DC switchgear, R&B offers a comprehensive worldwide service for the supply of switchgear, circuit breakers and ancillary equipment.

Our portfolio of specialist services includes thermographic surveys for electrical power systems and engine rooms. Additionally, we conduct non-intrusive partial discharge checks on MV and HV systems, transformers and associated equipment.
