The study area is located in Xanthi, Greece and its orientation is South-West. Two building units where placed relatively in the center of the study area leaving space in the back for a courtyard. For our block of flats, it was important to achieve a feeling that each floor acts as a piece of a puzzle and for this reason prominent volumes were designed.

As far as floorplans go, generally the living rooms and kitchens of most apartments was placed at the front of the building, taking advantage of the view and the lighting. Each apartment uses the roof of the lower floor as a balcony, and as a result the square footage of the interior space is approximately equal to that of the exterior. The bedrooms, most of which are located at the back, have additional balconies.

The underground floor is used for parking and provides storage spaces. On the ground floor, there is also a second parking space, as well as a meeting room and changing rooms for the swimming pool located in the courtyard. Finally, a multipurpose room is located on the ground floor, the design of which does not have any particularity, so that it can host any exhibition.

Example of apartment floorplan

In this apartment, an open floor plan was chosen connecting the dining and living areas and given that the orientation is SW both the kitchen and the living room have adequate lighting. When it comes to the bedrooms, despite the fact that they are not large in size we took advantage of the space by placing the furniture on the side walls and creating a path from the room doors to the balcony doors without obstacles. It was very important to add an additional space, which in this case is designed as an office, however, it has the potential to be used as a storage space too.

Theatrical Scenery VI 2021

The aim for this assignment was to design a stage set based on a play or film of our choice. A key issue was the creation of a versatile set which, in cooperation with the lighting, could accommodate all the necessary scenes of the play without having to change.

For this project the film “Sweeney Todd: The demon barber of Fleet Street” was chosen and the theatrical scenery was designed to accommodate seven main scenes. Incoorperated into the stage set are three main locations, in the middle, Sweeney Todd’s barber shop with Mrs. Lovett’s bakery, on the left Judge Turpin’s house and on the centre as well as the right the main square.

The play, in its first edition, takes place in 1785, however after re-editions and changes made to the story, the play we know today is set in Victorian London, specifically 1846. During this time in London, the gap between the lower and upper class is very big and there are no social programs to help the economically weak to move up socially.

The main meaning behind the play Sweeney Todd: the killer barber of Fleet Street, is the fact that the protagonist (Sweeney Todd) seeks revenge on the powerful in society for destroying his family and destroying his future. However, along the way he discovers that people who belong in the same social class as him seek his destruction and thus, he comes to the conclusion that evil can be found in all social classes and therefore decides to kill them all. Sweeney turns from a political activist, to a maniacal killer. In this work, the main part is the exaggeration of good and evil in various ways, which was often presented in the works of that time.

Scene 2: Sweeney Todd and Mrs Lovett reunite after years. In this scene Sweeney Todd and Mrs Lovett sing a duet, with him expressing his pleasure for being back and reuniting with his friends (referring to his knives) and with Mrs Lovett interpretating his words as a hint for his affection towards her.
Scene 4: Sweeney Todd is signing a solo in the main square. This is a phantasy of what is about to come and in this scene the character is about to embark on a sinister path.

Lavrio is a town located in the SE part of Attica and is known for its history and monumental wealth as one of its most prominent parts is its port which was once one of the most important in Greece.

In this project, we were asked to choose one of three study areas, with Area 1 focusing on the preservation of an existing building unit that was used as Spinning Mills and the design of a main square, Area 2, which is our study area, focusing on the design of a new residential zone and Area 3 focusing on designing a hotel unit. The aim of this project was for all three of these areas to be redesigned in order to elevate the status of the town.

Some initial goals include:

- The design of a traffic system for the proper movement of the residents.

- The design of pedestrian and cycling paths for the convenience of residents.

- The design of green spaces for residents and their pets to relax.

Green spaces and main square

The initial thought for the buildings was to create volumes which, per floor, would protrude or extrude. In this way, the roofs would be able to work as balconies and have green spaces, thus creating a place of relaxation for the residents. In type 1 and 3 on the top floor the rooftops on the left of the staircase are accessible by all residents. Additionally, in order to distinguish the three different types more easily, but also to give a touch of liveliness to the new residential zone, we chose to colour the exterior of the staircase of each type with a different color. Orange for type one, blue for type two and red for type three.

Project Location Semester Year Spa Facilities and Accommodation Thermes, Xanthi, Greece

Thermes is a mountain village in the regional unit of Xanthi, which has thermal springs. The aim of the work was to design a building unit, which will house spa facilities, as well as guest houses, in combination with auxiliary spaces, offices and gathering spaces for visitors.

Initially, a central path was drawn, the slope of which would be followed by the design of the rest of the composition. The public spaces (baths) were separated from the private ones (guesthouses), which resulted in the design of a building unit that includes the baths, offices, doctor’s office, lecture hall and event spaces, as well as three groups of buildings that include the guest houses.

Plan Level +4.00

Here we have the main entrance with a staircase that takes visitors to the rest of the spa facilities.

Plan Level 0.00

An open space is used as a foyer for the lecture room and the facility’s administration. Visitors can also access an outdoor passage to their accommodation.

Plan Level -4.00

Here we have the spa facilities with the main pool containing warm water and a smaller one containing cold water, hammams, saunas, a doctor’s office and a conference room. On the same level we find the lower cost and higher cost rooms as well as a cafeteria.

Plan Level -8.00

Under the level of the cafeteria there is a restaurant. In this level there are also the rooms of the highest cost, fully detached from each other and with private warm water pools.

Urban Design - Port Kavala, Greece VIII 2022

During the urban design course, we were asked to study and redesign the harbour on the peninsula of Panagia at the southern sea border of the city of Kavala.

The existing state of the area lacks of any particular urban design or any use beyond this port facility. Keeping in mind that the area is a short distance from the city center, the purpose of this project is to extend the idea of the square and the “center” towards the study area, using new materials and a complete remodeling of the existing building unit.

An initial thought was to create an imaginary grid based on the building unit with the addition of wooden decks that extend to the sea offering a view of the city and forming an interesting movement towards the interior of the plot.

The element of water is an important part of our concept, which we brought back topically next to the old wall, wanting to highlight the look of the area before the addition of the existing platform.
