FRESHMAN-JUNIOR

Choose B.S.P.S.-

Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences

The Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences (B.S.P.S.) is a degree program that includes all of the pre-pharmacy coursework for the professional Pharm.D. program and prepares students to apply for the professional Pharm.D. program. It is coupled with the Pharm.D. so that the final year of the B.S.P.S. program is the first year of the professional Pharm.D. program. The degree program includes foundational math and science courses as well as courses to learn about the discovery, development, manufacturing, policy, and therapeutic aspects of drugs.

Pre-Pharmacy

The B.S.P.S. program is also referred to as Pre-Pharmacy which is usually a three-year course of study that prepares students for admission into the professional pharmacy degree program.

Early-Entry Pharmacy

The Early-Entry Program is a cohort program within the B.S.P.S. degree that provides highly qualified high school seniors with guaranteed seats in the professional Pharm.D. program upon completion of the pre-pharmacy coursework, avoiding the competitive selection process for regular-entry admission that normally occurs during the junior year of college. A Progressive Entry (PE) option is also available to Early-Entry students who would like to complete their coursework in an accelerated timeframe and enter the professional program at the end of their sophomore year.

Early-Entry students enjoy far more than simply early acceptance into the professional pharmacy program. They receive the benefits of the Early-Entry experience, featuring specialized tutoring, professional advancement opportunities, and the chance to be part of the Living Learning Community – guaranteed, specialized housing just for Early-Entry students.

One of the best aspects of becoming a pharmacist is the flexibility of career settings. Pharmacists aren’t limited in where they work. So whether you prefer working directly with patients in a face-to-face setting or a telehealth setting, not working directly with patients at all, or being part of an interprofessional team and consulting with physicians and nurses, there are so many career options for you as a future pharmacist.

i am a leader...

McComb native Alexcia Carr’s path to pharmacy is a little more personal. Helping to manage and administer her grandfather’s medications inspired her to enter a field where she could help others in the same way.

A community college transfer student, Alexcia is a member of the prestigious Columns Society, an orientation leader and an Honors College student, along with serving in a host of leadership roles within the School of Pharmacy. She’s ready to pursue postgraduate education and give back to her community.

JacobWooley

i am giving back...

Born with a genetic condition that saw him in and out of hospitals in his early years, Jacob Wooley has had an interest in serving others through medicine since he was young. Jacob, of Olive Branch, wanted to make a difference the way that hospital pharmacists made a difference for him.

Jacob was a recipient of the Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Scholarship, which enabled him to seamlessly transition from community college to Ole Miss and dive right into student life.

During pharmacy school, students participate in experiential learning activities and interact with pharmacists in various practice settings.

There are multiple ways a person can make a difference in someone’s life and I want to make a difference too.

Transfer students quickly find a home in the School of Pharmacy and are provided opportunities to engage in the Pre-Pharmacy Club and other extracurricular activities.

I am a huge science nerd and people person... and pharmacy is the perfect combination of the two. I find passion in solving seemingly unsolvable problems – and pharmacy has given me the tools to do just that.

A Taylor Medalist and president of the pharmacy student body, Corinne is also a leader among her peers. Her advice for high school students considering a future in pharmacy? Don’t worry about having all the answers, but recognize that this career path can take you anywhere you want to go.

The overall wellbeing of students is a priority, with pop-up exercises, stress reduction and other self-care opportunities available to help them feel supported in their academic journey.
