Gallopoli Peninisula Campaign

During World War One, (WWI) the British wanted to control the Gallipoli peninsula with the point being to control the Dardanelles. During the campaign, the conditions were horrible, soldiers would get trench foot and dysentery due to the muddy trenches, cold conditions and insufficient diet. The Gallipoli campaign lasted from 19 February 1915 to 9 January 1916, but the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) started the fight on 25 April 1915. After 8 long months, the campaign proved unsuccessful and had to evacuate the surviving units.

. During the Gallipoli campaign, the British and ANZAC lost a lot of soldiers setting them back a little bit in the war due to the lack of soldiers. Since so many people died, it influenced enlistment numbers as they had significantly dropped after 1915, affecting how many soldiers were in the army. The Gallipoli campaign had very little effect on the overall outcome of the war despite all the casualties, but it still holds significance for the ANZAC’s and turkey since its first major military action fought by the ANZAC’s.
